Of the three films in that set, that would be my least desired upgrade. Upgrade the whole set, though, and I’m in.

What A Disgrace wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 11:57 pm There's been rumors of a Roberto Galvadon Eclipse box for a while, right? This possible leak hints explicitly at La Otra and implicitly at Macario; its such an odd hint to drop because its a long rumored release but not one that's been talked about at all.
I'm not sure where in the world everyone is, but the AMPAS Museum in Los Angeles is doing a Galvadon retrospective in January.
The mix is one of DCPs and 35mm prints.

Knew about Adoption, Le cercle rouge, love jones, and the Scorsese 4k, but not Flight of the Phoenix. I wasn't expecting the former to drop so soon though.

Le Cercle Rouge is 4K only (for this print run that is), is that the first title to be so?

The Website says it's a 4K + Blu-ray combo: "One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features"

amazing how all these Janus tours are going on for titles we guess every single month and then Adoption is somehow already ready, wild. totally expected Ikarie XB-1 to fill this month's second run slot

The Last Waltz is a much better choice for their first Scorcese UHD than I imagined

Out of curiosity I checked to see what was on the leaked list from Chef Boyardee. I'm sure just a coincidence, he said Le Cercle Rouge and a Scorsese 4k

To be fair, 'Le Cercle Rouge' was already hinted to being forthcoming for a while now. Scorsese also has had multiple titles (Cape Fear, Raging Bull, and After Hours) as being rumored to be a future Criterion release, so it is easy to guess that a Scorsese title was to come out on 4K .

I think what Apperson is saying is that the combo is the only option available for purchase, unlike all other UHD releases thus far, including this month's The Last Waltz, which offers a blu-ray only option for buyers

Curious to see if the Blu-ray in Le cercle rouge is the old one or if it uses the new master.

A pretty underwhelming month, but I haven't picked up Second Run's Adoption yet and this seems like the version to get.

March 2022 will be another great month for saving money and concentrating on other labels. Thank you, Criterion!

I couldn't even be bothered to enter my increasingly despairing hope for a PANDORA'S BOX upgrade. And yeah, a disappointment of a month.

Of all the possible “4K Scorsese titles” to release, this sure feels disappointing, even though I love the doc. I guess the rationale is probably more for the sound design upgrade?

Is there any discernible reason why Bringing Out the Dead still has no blu-ray release (i.e. Scorsese or Cage disowning it, release/music rights issues)?

the upside I see here is that this is their first MGM 4K title (unless I missed something and The Last Waltz is with someone else now), so hopefully Criterion at least puts forth some of their upgrades (The Graduate and Midnight Cowboy I believe would be the most likely candidates)

Universal, Fox, Sony, and of course Paramount remain to be seen. exciting times!

Disappointment seconded! I'm going to buy the Studio Canal release. That will ensure that CC announces it next month.

I assume that Paramount is hanging on to Bringing Out the Dead.

The announcement of Le cercle rouge UHD makes Kino getting stuff like the other Melville titles and Last Year at Marienbad even more disappointing as they have said they have no interest in release them on UHD.

upside is that likely big hitters Contempt, Grand Illusion, Man Who Fell to Earth, and Third Man would likely come on UHD whenever CC gets to them in like five years

The reason was Paramount's years of ignoring their catalog titles on BD. They've picked things up the last couple years, but have to get around to Bringing Out the Dead, among others.

I'm lost by this point on the back-and-forth between who has what, but I thought it was established with some certainty that Criterion didn't get The Third Man back?
