However, this post is clearly complete nonsense and not worth discussing whatsoever and any basis in reality is clearly lucky guesswork. Remember how bc someone who said La Dolce Vita was coming also said Lana Del Ray would get a collection for some reason took that as credible?
The Lana Del Ray rumor actually came fromthis post, where they also mention 'Punch Drunk Love' and an early Bela Tarr film getting a release.

If this is true, my guess is Kinuyo Tanaka, whose 5-6 films as a director have recently been restored.

A Scorsese 4K that is not After Hours would probably be The Irishman, as it would just mean adding an already-mastered 4K version to the existing release. If not that, then The Age of Innocence.

How I laughed about the Lana Del Rey thing at the time, but post-Norman Fucking Rockwell I'm now dead center in the target audience for that release. If they ever actually considered doing a video collection, they should do it now.

Cape Fear, which supposedly has a 4K master and Kino, Shout and Arrow have all said they don't have it.

that guy over on blu ray forum is still at it saying now that he will only reveal 5 more titles as that will be "half the releases".

Clearly the guy is lying through his fucking teeth but I gotta admit it is super entertaining. They're bound to get a few right because even a broken clock...

EDIT: I was one of the people who PM'd him but didn't post in the criterion thread but I asked him if any Lynch was going to be upgraded to 4k given that all CC releases of his have been restored in 4k and he said Eraserhead was on the slate which if we learned anything from the very first time Criterion was going to release it before Lynch himself cancelled it there is no way anyone would let that cat out of the bag to ANYONE. And now if we don't see an Eraserhead upgrade we wouldn't know either way if they were lying about that one or not... right?

Could also be a set of Sadao Yamanaka's existing work. Humanity and Paper Balloons is a pretty important title. I'm not certain,
but I believe there was some restoration work done on those films more recently.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's pure gaslighting, blu-ray.com's boards had its share of people claiming to have inside knowledge of Criterion's slate only to be formally proved as liars. It happened recently along their HK sets IIRC.

In the present case, we'd have someone suddenly posting tons of "hints" over a few days from a notoriously secretive label but wouldn't know if if they're forcing embargoes on packaging pictures or simply if physical copies haven't been shipped yet to reviewers.

I suspect I know who is running that account. If true, I wouldn't trust any of the 'leaks' posted. Zero.

At some point, it'll be just Barnum effect : there'll be so many leaks with no date attached, he's bound to have at least 1 right.

It was actually someone who was "leaking" the Shaw Bros titles that Arrow was going to release before James Flower (or was it Fran Simeoni?) quickly shut down those rumors. Regardless, this guy who is "leaking" Criterion's titles clearly doesn't have any actual insider sources.

The last few years, Criterion has been trying to release a film by a female director almost every month and since the New York Times article, at least one film by a black filmmaker a month. The fact that his leaks include only one film by black filmmakers (Dead Presidents) and none by women tells me this is bullshit.

Same, though unfortunately I think by this point the album is dated from relevance in its specifics, even if the messaging is just as firmly-planted in the zeitgeist. I'd love to see Criterion license Pitchfork scholars to contribute to academic extras on some music-based release though

I take this so-called list with a grain - nay, a mountain - of salt, but I’m not counting omissions against these supposed leaks since the noodle has been clear that they’re not divulging the entire release list.

If it’s real. Which is probably isn’t. But the great thing is that it’ll reveal itself soon enough.

well let's home When a Woman Ascends the Stairs gets upgraded, as that's a very evident hint right there!!! pretty sure no other Japanese director only has one title in the mainline collection from the 60s..

Nakagawa’s Jigoku would be another one, and it has had additional photos added to it, which they don’t usually do with older releases dating back to the days of only one pic on the product page.

A friend attended a John Waters Christmas event last night, and mentioned that Waters dropped a hint that Criterion will be doing PINK FLAMINGOS.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival will be premiering a new restoration of Just Another Girl on the I.R.T. from the Sundance Institute Collection (who also did the restorations of Hoop Dreams, Paris is Burning, Desert Hearts, and Paris, Texas). Given how prominently it’s been featured on the Criterion Channel, I’d say a disc release is likely.

It's still with Miramax, so it would be very welcome news if Criterion does manage to license it for a physical release (and not merely streaming).
