That would certainly be interesting considering Forman has been dead for three years...

That was the joke (or just the unintended eerie underpinning to the digital bits’ inside scoop as phrased there, but maybe that was just me)

Is there a good online Canadian retailer that offers a 50% discount at the same time as B&N?

None, as far as I know. Unobstructed View offers Criterion discounts at about the same time, but 40% is a high as it goes. There's also WowHD. As for "good", I've had no problems with either, but others have had complaints.

No. I think Unobstructed View runs a 40% off sale concurrent with the B&N sale.

It looks like it may still be cheaper to order out of the States at their 50% off + conversion + shipping versus Canadian amount at 40% off

Unobstructed View have run 40-50% sales in the past (and even one where Crits were $20 each, including box sets) but I do find them astoundingly incompetent. I've had every problem with them that you can imagine, yet I still do occasionally place an order. (I placed one for the 4th Cohen Keaton volume as they can be hard to get for a decent price here. It was supposedly in stock 15 days ago, they charged my card a week ago but when I click on order history I get an error screen. God knows what the status of the order is.) They also charge a $10 premium on box sets (e.g. the upcoming Kane) regardless of shipping thresholds. I mostly get my Criterions directly from the Criterion store (this requires a larger order of ~9-10 items or more), Amazon.com (around 5-6 items or more), the rare wowhd sale can be good or, if I feel like gambling on getting hit by customs - deepdiscount (probably the best option for smaller orders as they have the best shipping rates.)

Not sure if this old news but someone on the bluray.com Criterion thread said that the KL Insider was asked if Kino has Double Indemnity. He said it's with another label

With this going on the Channel next month alongside Dim Sum and Eat a Bowl of Tea, I wonder if they're going to be releasing those as well. Strand is distributing Chan and Dim Sum theatrically, and since Wang owns both of those films I would assume he went with the same distributors for each, i.e. Strand for theatrical and Criterion for video. Eat a Bowl of Tea is with Sony so that could be in the mix for Criterion as well. Smoke (but not Blue in the Face, oddly enough) went up on the Channel this month as part of the "New York Stories" collection, so maybe that's coming too, but the other three would make a logical box set if Criterion wanted to go that route.

Not much of a surprise, however Coffee and Cigarettes is playing on the Criterion Channel with Criterion and Janus logos

I think the changes in management bode well. It's really hard for me to believe that anyone at AT&T or the Discovery Channel or whatever conglomerate becomes Warner's next Business Daddy really cares that The Devils remains in a vault.

Netflix tweeted out to expect a "surprise" from David Fincher tomorrow - in the absence of any larger ready-to-release projects of his, perhaps this means the announcement of a Mank blu-ray?

They are probably announcing something related to 'The Killer' or maybe an announcement for Mindhunter S3.

On a completely different note, I've noticed that the Forthcoming Criterion titles list hasn't been updated in a while since Minkin wen on hiatus. If possible, I would like to volunteer to clean up the page if no other mod is interested in doing so

Turns out it's Voir, a series of Fincher-produced "visual essays celebrating cinema" by various critics, so far unnamed except for Drew McWeeny who wrote about the experience on his Substack.

Infinitely lamer than anything else it could have been.

EDIT: Apparently this is what Tony Zhou has been working on as of recently, yay! And two of the essays are by Oliver Stone and Sasha Stone, boo...

Would’ve preferred Vore, a show about people with a devouring fetish.

I would've preferred a third season of Mindhunter than this and Mank (but I understand why they had to let people out of their contracts if filming a third was on indefinite hold due to COVID).

With 'Drive My Car' virtually locked as a future Criterion release, what other films from 2021 do you think will be a part of the collection? I would say that there is a very high chance that 'The Power of a Dog' will receive a Criterion release, as it's a critically acclaimed film that looks to be a very strong awards contender and is directed by someone who already has multiple films in the collection.

How about Todd Haynes' The Velvet Underground doc. Apple TV is distributing this, which could open the door for Haynes to have Criterion to do the physical media release [-o<
