^ Urgh, that was painful. "Academy Award this", "Academy Award that" AND "AMBITION" AND "SEX" blah blah. If I only had this trailer to go by, I'd avoid the film like a plague. Of the two (!) Ridley Scott films this year, I'm much more intrigued by The Last Duel. House of Gucci feels like it could as terrible as The Counselor and GI Jane and the other dozen of dreadful films Scott has made since peaking in 1982 (Thelma and Louise, and maybe Black Hawn Down excepted).

PS.: The presence of Jeremy Irons and Jared Leto doesn't help. Those two are like fingernails on chalkboard to me.

It looks like sentimental sop, yeah, but there is something beautiful about having Clint Eastwood and Ennio Morricone together again, even if it's just for a trailer.

I never saw American Sniper, but I understand that it uses Morricone's cue The Funeral from the 1965 western The Return of Ringo, so perhaps Cry Macho will similarly feature a Morricone composition alongside Mark Mancini's original score.

My most anticipated film this year! Hoping that at least one of the cinemas in Baltimore will play this as Annapolis is only getting served studio dreck, and that a disc release will be coming from Criterion or someone else next year.

This doesn't have its own thread, but the reviews seem stuck in apologetic mediocrity to devastating.

I didn't dislike it. Some terrible acting and laughable moments, but enough pleasant moments as well. I'm almost certainly being kinder to it because of 91-year-old Clint though

The Tender Bar. A friend saw this at its world premiere at the London Film Festival and really liked it (especially Ben Affleck)

I didn't even know about this until a social media contact (who I haven't seen in ages) posted this week about working on it. All she would say is that George Clooney is genuinely the nicest man in the world - glad to hear it, I'm usually a fan, but I've been underwhelmed by his directorial efforts including his last one so I hope this one exceeds my expectations.
