Maybe someone smarter than I knows this: have there ever been two ex-aequo prizes given in the same year?

Not this century. It seems this jury couldn't deliberate it down this year for whatever reason.

Please let Spike Lee be the jury president and accidentally announce the Palme d’or winner (and then almost announce it again!) every year.

I accidentally caught the prize leaks this morning (why people can't wait a few hours is beyond me; I hate the leaks), so it is just as well for Spike. His confusion in that clip is understandable.

When was the last time a film this late in the line up won a major prize like Caleb Landry Jones just did for Nitram? Drive comes to mind but since?

Thrilled for Doucornau's win as that might finally convince more people to seek out RAW. The Jury Prize for Ahed's Knee is surprising though it had to share with Memoria. Ahed's Knee wasn't on any critic's Best Of list, was it?

Neon was founded in 2017 and the studio has already distributed two Palme winners

This seems the most divisive Palme since Wild at Heart, and frankly Ducornau's first film was garbage. I can't say this Palme excites me, but maybe it's decent. The critics on the ground didn't think so, but the jury isn't the critics. Hopefully next year we can have jury without four French people.

Last day winners happens quite a bit actually, perhaps due to recency. Elia Suleiman's film screened last in 2019 and won a prize.

The jury should have just gave it Nadav Lapid. Weerasethakul's won the Jury Prix before, he's one the Palme before, and his film was rapturously received. Spike Lee announcing the Palme first, however hesitantly, seems the only time this Jury's made a decision.

I'm happy with Titane winning (based mostly on the trailer), but have not seen Raw. Kind of disappointed Simon Rex didn't win Actor, as that was an early prediction of mine that seemed like a longshot until he gradually became the frontrunner.

Lol, fair enough—an obviously sore comment from someone who would not have pointed that out if Carax or Hansen-Løve won. I do hope I enjoy Ducornau's film as this seems pretty well poised to be inescapable.

I'm almost certain this won't be as widely touted or well-received as Parasite was for Neon, because it seems like a much more difficult film. Plus they've got to figure out how to market it first.

But then again:

Fantastic choice for the top prize! Between this and the post-2018 Oscars, Spike Lee should be on hand for every film awards show no matter the relevance of his presence

In any case, that was a much funnier ceremony than any of the recent ones I've seen (especially the Césars).
