According to Veronique Rivette (french only), L'amour Fou and Va Savoir will be restored soon. And there'll be complete retrospective at Cinémathèque Française next January.

Does this "restoration" mean 220mins of Va Savoir?

I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know if the Va Savoir+ cut even exists anymore? If it only played at one theater in Paris, I wouldn't be surprised to find the print(s) have been lost to time.

Excellent news! Is there an easier way to purchase this from the states outside of amazon.fr (which isn't even giving me an option for preorder)? Potemkine's site isn't particularly helpful either, listing the film as DVD only, plus I'm not even sure if they ship here..

Potemkine used to ship to the USA -- and I got a number of releases from them. I haven't ordered from them for a few years however.

I don't see any reason to spend xtra $$$ on importing the French releases if you can wait a bit longer for the stateside Cohen releases, especially since there will likely be supplemental material on the Cohen discs

Potemkine's international shipping got prohibitively expensive in the last year - they want 50 euros to ship those two Blu-Rays. I'm waiting until Amazon.fr has them available for order, probably just after they're released.

EDIT: FNAC has both up for pre-order - €47.17 with shipping. Not great, but not terrible.

They’re not due out until the 15th of June, I believe, so perhaps there’ll be more preorder options closer to the date – I had no luck finding them on the Potemkine site either, only fnac.

Cool, thanks all. I just rewatched Up, Down, Fragile a few nights ago, and have my copy of Secret Defense cued up in close proximity for a revisit soon, so I'll probably wait for the Cohen releases after all, barring some announcement of exceptional extras to these releases

Why do I love PdN so much? One, the interplay between mother and daughter playing not-quite-compatible, chance-met, temporary comrades. Two, the exploration of out-of-the-way (now probably mostly vanished forever) corners of Paris. Three, the pacing. Four, everything else. I first saw this (and long knew it) only in unsubbed form -- and even bought a multi-standard VHS player to play this and a few other otherwise-unfindable, but must-see (for me) films. It also helped that I had a crush on Bulle Ogier ever since I saw her in Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (when this first came to the theaters in the US).

I just watched this for the very first time, and I am with you on your reasons for loving it.

What a horrible shame that Pascale Ogier died so young.

I was quite shocked when "dead" Marie, almost out of the sweeping view, got up! There must be some discussion somewhere in these forums (or this thread?) about the disorienting ending of this film. Part of me thought "Oh, right: Role-playing." Part of me feels that Rivette employs MacGuffins and turns them up-side-down and in-side-out. This was a strange and lovely viewing experience for me.

So glad you finally got to see this. I've never understood why this seems to be considered a "lesser" Rivette film. It always seemed so "magical" to me.

I've watched this many times -- but honestly have never noticed Marie getting up at the end.

No, it’s definitely there! I’ve only seen Le Pont du Nord once, but I remember it distinctly.

So, that leaves the question -- did Marie stage this with her gangster boyfriend to get the crazy girl to leave her alone.
