Agreed, and I made a pretty penny selling the Trilogy of Life and Salo a few months ago after the last sale. However, a bunch of titles (like Seven Samurai and Salo) now say "on back order."

Seconds, unlike the previously mentioned Paramount titles, is showing "On Back-Order" rather than "Currently Unavailable."

Someone asked about Rosemary's Baby and Criterion said it would not be coming back in stock.

Whether that meant not returning in time to offer a replacement, or not returning ever, I'm not sure.

I'm not too worried. The Parallax View just got released, and The Furies, which is getting upgraded in April, is through Paramount. The website lists them as "Currently Unavailable" instead of "Out of Print". I think they'll probably be restocked by the time the July B&N sale comes around.

I'm interested to see what things look like in a week, as I wouldn't be too surprised if Paramount allowed the rights to their films to lapse.

I wonder with their pledge from last year during BLM that they've actively sought out films from filmmakers of African American background
to diversify their output? They seem to have a lot of films in the backlog to release already (most of Wim Wenders catalog for example).

Also with Paramount removing their licenses for various films in the last week or so, that Criterion's monopoly over such lucrative re-releases might be diminishing.
Paramount joins Fox and Studiocanal in the re-acquisition of high profile films from their back catalog.

I'm going to post here because I will not assume the following is OOP.... The Lady Vanishes is listed as Currently Unavailable, while The Man Who Knew Too Much is listed as On Back Order. Criterion is confusing with their classifications

I assume back order means that items just need to be taken out of a warehouse (so they have a known number available but they just aren't ready for immediate shipping), while currently unavailable implies that the title actually needs to be reprinted (which could take time depending on the manufacturer's availability, especially during Covid).

I'm guessing it was a now or never situation given the Fox/Disney mess. Perhaps they retained the rights as a "One day" kinda holding and then moved it forward only when it was in danger of lapsing/going away forever
