Thanks for sharing that! Looking forward to the next volume. As far as my question, it does show they will continue to release the Cohen restorations but I wonder if they will release any future Lobster restorations as well.FrauBlucher wrote: Sun Oct 04, 2020 2:20 pmHere's your answerHitchcockLang wrote: Tue Sep 22, 2020 3:46 pm I wonder what implications this will have for the remaining Buster Keaton restorations since there was all the awkwardness with the competing restorations, some released by Kino and the others by Cohen.

One is called "My Journey through French Cinema", which is 192 minutes long. The other is called "Journeys through French Cinema", which is the longer version in 8 parts. Of these, Cohen has issued the first as a Blu Ray disc. Does anyone know if they intend to issue the longer version in the physical format?
Coming to Blu-ray March 30th from Cohen Media Group and Kino Lorber!
Journeys Through French Cinema (2020)
Directed by Bertrand Tavernier
2-Disc Set
My Journey Through French Cinema (2017), Bertrand Tavernier’s César-nominated three-and-a-half-hour tour through French film history, was too short to introduce audiences to all that he wanted to share. In this new eight-part series, the acclaimed director of such films as Coup de Torchon and ‘Round Midnight guides us through a roster of filmmakers both influential and forgotten, explores how his country’s cinema was shaped by the German occupation and changed again through the New Wave, spotlights little-known female filmmakers, and more. Subjects include: René Clément, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Julien Duvivier, Henri Decoin, Claude Autant-Lara, as well as composers who made movie music an art in and of itself, far from the Hollywood spotlight.
Includes:
*Optional English subtitles

I asked Cohen about their Rivette releases on a different forum that shall not be named - Gang of Four is coming soon, followed by Love on the Ground. They're planning limited theatrical runs for Up, Down, Fragile and Secret Defense before putting those out, so it may not be until 2022.

The freshly-registered Cohen rep posting in the Kino thread also soft announced some others titles:
Regarding [Joan Micklin Silver's] A FISH IN THE BATHTUB, we are hoping to have this out by the end of the year or possibly just into 2022. We just finished a 4K restoration of the Joan Micklin Silver film HESTER STREET and are looking at some festivals in the fall, with a limited theatrical release after. The plan at the moment is to release HESTER STREET, along with FISH IN A BATHTUB and the Raphael Silver films ON THE YARD (1978) and A WALK ON THE MOON (1987) at or around the same time through our friends at Kino Lorber.

They’ve got Marie and Julien, but I think Va Savoir is still with Sony.

Sony does have Va Savior, but not Va Savior+, which--like L'amour fou--is not with anyone at the moment.soundchaser wrote: Sat Apr 24, 2021 12:55 pm They’ve got Marie and Julien, but I think Va Savoir is still with Sony.

Looking back, the original Cohen announcement was for 10 features. If they don't have Va Savoir then they must have Divertimento - but I would have thought that they would have released this with / at the same time as La Belle Noiseuse.

I emailed them about Divertimento a few years ago, and they said it was in need of a restoration so they opted to release La Belle Noiseuse without it.

Re: Cohen Film Collection
JSC -- Thanks. I wonder when this will be released. In terms of overall look, it doesn't seem all that different from the long-ago DVD. Given how many "restored" films of that era look awful colorwise in their new versions, I guess this is a good thing.

Amazon was taking preorders for White As Snow and Who You Think I Am for a few days; now the prices and links for both are gone. Anybody know why? I hope when they come back they're lower than $29.95 each...

Don't know amazon's prices, but kino is the distributing these now, so these could end up in a kino sale for reasonable prices. One thing with some of the older titles is that when kino has reprinted them (assuming it's them that does the reprinting), they no longer have booklets. I don't know whether these new releases come with booklets at all.

Which older titles? For what it's worth, I bought Under the Sun of Satan and La Belle Noiseuse from Kino's website during one of the recent sales and they both came with booklets, and those aren't exactly "new"fdm wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 1:52 amOne thing with some of the older titles is that when kino has reprinted them (assuming it's them that does the reprinting), they no longer have booklets. Re: Cohen Film Collection
Just did a search over at blu-ray.com of their kino thread to refresh my memory: Sudden, Fear Hangmen Don't Die! and Intolerance were mentioned... And in the june swoon sale thread Hail Mary was also mentioned. I imagine there is still old stock floating around for a lot of the other titles, but my recollection was that if kino insider said for any reprints there would be no booklet. I also see a mention of no booklet for Buster Keaton vol 4.
Found the relevant quote from KL Support (not quite what I remember):

One guy mentioned that in place of some of the missing booklets was a 4-page advert from kino. Some of titles were reprinted and we were not made aware of changes. We are updating product pages accordingly for Cohen titles w no booklets. Contact customer support if you're truly unhappy, but there's nothing further we can offer for booklets, etc. Hopefully these sale prices will offset the issue and the quality of the release itself will suffice.
