I've never seen a movie there myself, but I remember a couple other posters on this forum mentioning that they had significant problems with the sound there. Specifically, I remember mfunk talking about how he couldn't understand much of Inherent Vice's dialogue at its premiere and hearthesilence mentioning that they had (or may have had, they/I wasn't certain) similar trouble with The Other Side Of The Wind.

Dropping $75 a ticket for a gala screening of Inherent Vice there was sort of like ordering the porterhouse at Olive Garden.

If you're hard of hearing or even just concerned about being able to hear the film, they're almost certain to have accessibility devices for hard of hearing patrons if you call ahead and ask. Not sure if the fact that they're festival premiers might impact that or not. Also might just depend on where you're sitting in the theater, only been there once.

I was given a heads up by one of the programmers that they were doing a Romanian Retrospective. It’s great to see it officially programmed. The Scorsese documentaries being screened is wonderful too. And Alec Guinness at Ealing. Terrific winter calendar

The Philadelphia Story (which I've never seen, believe it or not) is screening at the United Palace Theater in The Heights on Monday, Feb. 10. Been living in Washington Heights for years; walked past this historic building a million times but have never been in it. Not a bad idea for a visit. Just wish they had more than 4 or 5 film screenings a year!

Sorry I missed this, but Nicolas Cage is doing Q&A's at the Roxy tonight. They've been screening many of his films this past month in 35mm.

Was he doing Q&A's before, or were they just screening his films? Regardless, it's impressive the Roxy has put together a theater of this caliber when it's primarily a hotel looking for something to fill its basement.

It's a weird ass theater. I saw Raising Arizona over two months ago in 35, and there was at least a month before that of showing his films. They've done at least a full quarter of being Nicolas Cage programming! I went to see Bringing Out the Dead last month, but they said it wouldn't be starting until 30 minutes after it was supposed to because of a private event in the bar. Theater is fine and they've definitely had wild programming over the last year (Bertolucci films in 35!) but it's still such an odd place.

Anthology Film Archives is kicking off a 50th Anniversary celebration, though the roll-out is off to a very modest start due to the pandemic:

Normally this time of year, MoMA programs their annual series, The Contenders, which is sort of a run-down on what is ostensibly the best films of the year. It's actually a good program because it encompasses a lot, from little-seen films to dubious crapola with big marketing budgets.

This year, the theaters remain closed due to the pandemic, so it's streaming the entire series, and this may curtail their the programming as so many candidates are already banking on streaming from PPV or subscription platforms as more or less their only source of revenue. We'll see - I see one HBO Max exclusive and First Cow, so hopefully more will be open to lending their films - but regardless, if you're a member, here's the info:

California is almost at this threshold, too. I have the first Pfizer shot, but even after I get the second, I'll be vary wary and have my mask on throughout the duration of a movie.
I was never one to regularly patronize concession stands, but those are totally out for me.
