BFI already released a set in the UK that includes Fallen Angel, Whirlpool, and Where the Sidewalk Ends.
I totally forgot about that set, since I was holding out on an upgrade forgot about the rights overseas. Thanks!

It's a shame to because I'm sure Indicator would knock it out of the park.

I think Indicator has some kind of agreement with Arrow and MoC that they get first dibs on weird British genre movies from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and the occasional auteur related boxed set, while the other guys can have the film noir. Because MoC and Arrow have been handling the noir, and the last time Indicator touched the genre was either the Fuller box or Footsteps in the Fog.

But the BFI Preminger noir box came out a year or two before Indicator debuted, so that's not strictly relevant.

The BFI box has DVD era masters though whereas the TT releases should have newer restorations (that’s why Whirlpool and Fallen Angel have taken/are taking so long). But with Fox’s aggressive degraining of the restorations, who knows how they will turn out. Although Whirlpool in the BFI box had a lot of instability issues so that should at least be alleviated in a newer restoration.

The TT release will not have a newer master than the BFI.

damn, I would've upgraded for a new restoration, as I did with the great WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS. I did find the TT an improvement on the BFI box.

a fresh scan of FALLEN ANGEL would be most welcome & I'd certainly upgrade, inspite of the cost and shipping.

I'm tempted to get My Sister Eileen (I currently have the Sony DVD on hold at the library for the nth time), but per usual I've refrained from buying it or other TT releases in hopes that Indicator or another label will release it in a better package (and a bit out of spite for their price/quality ratio). I may just bite on this though - can anyone speak to this being worth it from the transfer alone?

Here were my thoughts from about a year ago. I’d love to believe Indicator have a Richard Quine set in the works, but can you really go any longer without owning this??

The color palette is darker (though I suspect the initial Sony DVD was a lot paler and more subdued than one would expect for a film of the era), but wow at that increased detail-- look at the comparison of Betty Garrett talking to Kurt Kaznar on the stoop-- you can actually see her shirt's pattern now!
Watched the TT Blu of My Sister Eileen last night and it looks very good, though I'm still uneasy about how dark it is, which seems to be a common issue with TT Blus. The increased detail is remarkable, though. The sound was unfortunately less impressive. Better than the DVD, sure, but overall don't be like me, wait for a sale (or start regularly attending your local Indicator Release prayer circle)

If anyone needs an order filler, I highly recommend Inferno, which is approximately 90% Robert Ryan as a rich asshole with a broken leg slowly dying in the desert after being double-crossed by his cheating wife + 10% the usual noir trappings, only in color and 3-D! It’s like Gerry but made in 1953 by Hollywood and with a protagonist that isn’t an idiot

Nope. The Egyptian, Rapture, The Roots of Heaven, Swamp Water, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Désirée, Journey to the Center of the Earth (1st edition), The Wayward Bus, High Time, The Sound and the Fury, Pony Soldier, The Only Game in Town, The Disappearance, Fever Pitch, Conrack, Rita, Sue and Bob Too, The Firm, Fate is the Hunter, Resurrected, Violent Saturday, 2 by Ken Roach, When the Wind Blows... and every release included subtitles for a while until, suddenly, Anne of the Thousand Days, Yanks, Talk Radio, The Big Fix, Melvin and Howard and Hussy.

The earlier releases from that list were Fox licenses that never had DVD releases & Film4 licenses, so subtitles were probably never prepared by the studios. The new releases are almost all Universal releases that had DVD releases, so it's surprising that Universal is not providing subtitle tracks.

I’m happy to confirm that Indicator’s region-free edition of Hussy certainly will be including subtitles, as I signed off on them on Monday.

(Although, tellingly, I had to create them from scratch as an existing file wasn’t available.)
