That front cover perfectly evokes that amazing scene where Jimmy Stewart and Dean Martin have their hats and their bodies gradually eaten away by a supernatural brown fog as they fire their guns uselessly into it.

How is Warlock ? I’ve heard lots of good things about the book but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone even mention the film.

Melvin and Howard was as delightful as I (very vaguely) remembered it from decades ago. I frankly did not remember most incidents of the film -- but did recall the "feel" of it (which is why I feel I didn't simply misremember seeing it). The performances in this are marvelous. The Blu-Ray looks good to me -- but no extras other than a trailer.

Check again in the audio menu, Michael — there’s a commentary by Demme and the production designer lurking in there.

Interesting! That film is coming from around the same time that Helen Mirren played the practical gangster's wife in The Long Good Friday (the best Mirren period!). And Jenny Runacre (a couple of years post Jarman's Jubilee) is in it too!
And whilst the blurb on the back cover lists Matthew Chapman's credits, it strangely leaves out that he co-wrote the screenplay for Color of Night!

Perhaps the warnings of TT’s demise are finally coming to fruition, as for the first time that I can remember, less than four titles have been announced:
THE TALL MEN (1955) BLU-RAY -- August 20
WHIRLPOOL (1949) BLU-RAY -- August 20
WILD IN THE COUNTRY (1961) BLU-RAY -- August 20

Whirlpool on Blu-ray is excellent, though there’s always the urge to gamble and wait for a potential Indicator announcement.

BFI already released a set in the UK that includes Fallen Angel, Whirlpool, and Where the Sidewalk Ends.

And you definitely don’t need the commentary track for Whirlpool carried over from the US Fox DVD, Schickel doesn’t even like the movie or Preminger
