Just a reminder that the SC rep was at the Criterion offices. And in her comment she said, "And many more soon!"

On end credit of The Art of Subtitling short docu in Panique, Grand Illusion was mentioned as available in the Criterion Collection. Perhaps this is a good sign?

Or a statement of long-established fact, as far as the DVD is concerned?

We missed this. Earlier in the week Janus tweeted Diary of a Country Priest
What I'm confused about is Janus tweeting these titles when they are with Rialto. Would Rialto be losing the theatrical distribution rights as well?

Question on the Blu-ray.com forum....
Any news on the Jacques Becker titles like Le Trou and Touchez pas au grisbi getting released by Kino?

KL Insider...
One of them is part of our deal, pretty sure the other is with another label.

Hope Criterion decides to add some features to 'Le Trou' if they indeed did get the rights back for it.

Kino Lorber Insider on Blu-ray.com:
[Shout Factory] didn't have first dibs, we're were the ones that met with [StudioCanal] and got them to release the unexploited Lionsgate titles for licensing. The word got out and we were outbid for most of the horror titles by them and some key arthouse titles by another label.

KL Insider on Criterion possibly having the rights to 'Peeping Tom':
Maybe so, but we have a bunch of titles Criterion had released on DVD. We've announced a bunch already.

KL Insider was asked about The Trial and said they "asked for it, but it was already promised to another label."

Definitely not a Shout title, so if Criterion is the other company with an SC deal, seems likely that they've gotten the rights to the film.

I was told by a source that Criterion still has lots of Welles coming. So this makes sense.

Through a very good source, I heard both Lester films are with Criterion.

I asked KI Insider if they got the rights to any of the Powell and Pressburger films and they had this to say:
We thought we had one P&P movie and one Michael Powell one, but they ended up with another label.
Could they be referring to Tales of Hoffmann and Peeping Tom?

Can we make a list of titles that have been confirmed by KL Insider to be coming from "other labels"?

The Kino Insider went from definitivly to now 'most likely' in regards to SC/Lionsgate titles....
The Third Man is most likely still with Lionsgate. Not everything was licensed, LG had first dibs.
And maybe Criterion gets the rights back to those OOP titles that Lionsgate have when their deal expires

Considering we’ve seen zero OOP StudioCanal titles return to Criterion, I think we should start preparing for the possible eventuality that none are with Criterion. I could easily see the label saying “Well, fuck that” to dealing with them after the original rights mess

I would tend to agree except for a few things... First, the SC rep posting an instagram photo of her visit Criterion (saying "The best of #studiocanalcatalogue at the cinephilie temple #criterion and suggesting that more titles are coming), second, the KL Insiders constant reference to other labels and third, Criterion's schedule is so packed that any said titles could be released later rather than sooner.

If you look at criterion’s schedule and presume that they want to announce spine 1000 in November that means July-October need only four new releases per month (not the five of the last four ish months) and no room for new box sets in this time frame.

That means probably more upgrades in these four months, or the perfect time to have a series of four-eight studio canal titles announced from July to October.

In other words, criterion could have targeted July to October as the ideal time for a studio canal reissue project, in terms of juggling schedule priorities and labor time

So rather than koker trilogy in July, the big titles might be Ran and Third Man Second and third editions, respectively.

Why you gotta pick on the Koker Trilogy?!

They also could just skip #1000 if they wanted to release it in a specific month
