Wonder if Soderbergh negotiated a physical media release, I just can't imagine him not requiring a Blu-Ray release for anything he does

Knowing Soderbergh, he probably realizes that while it means the movie will never get a real release the ridiculous amount of money coming in from Netflix means he’ll be able to make gigantic studio-level movies carte blanche without studio supervision and that probably appeals IMMENSELY

If Unsane were a Netflix exclusive I bet it would've gotten a lot more eyeballs. I'm fine with this when it comes to his smaller films that don't necessarily scream theatrical exhibition

Nice, with this and the Laundromat poised to be next year's Roma for Netflix, it's going to be a good year for Soderbergh. Plus who knows, he may drop another surprise film on us too like he did this year!

Holy shit, it looks like all the experimental kinks he worked out with the iPhone in Unsane paid off here-- this looks incredible

He's got this and The Laundromat on Netflix this year--wonder if he'll get recognition for both on year-ends. The Laundromat sounds like Soderbergh's version of a The Post-like movie, Meryl Streep and all. But, like, better. Will be utterly fascinating to see Oldman and Banderas playing the heads of Mossack Fonseca.

In many ways Netflix is the perfect production partner and platform for iPhone-era Soderbergh. Soderbergh can shoot and edit these commercially risky projects on relatively low budgets in a few months and Netflix can drop them like they're hot, no fiddle-faddle.

Not to mention that being shot on an iPhone, maybe home viewing would actually be the preferred experience over a theater, haha.

Which is why I specified I just watched two films shot on film, and on 16mm even. I rarely like the look of digital, and only Fincher and Lynch can push it to new places imo, and even then I'm not the biggest fan.
Looks like Soderbergh is pushing it to extremes as well, I just found of the trailer looking really odd.

Also, "And a writer of Moonlight" is just awful phrasing

So as you might expect given the writer, this is like a play about the business of basketball (and the socioeconomic politics around that--and the character of Ray Burke, a great Andre Holland). But a really good play. I want to dock it points for being so blatantly talky but it works.

I'm pretty amazed by what Soderbergh was able to achieve with a frickin' iPhone. Definitely a step up from how he used it for UNSANE.

Liked it a lot. It packs a lot in 90 minutes which can go either way but from what I've seen he's found ways of doing that without confusing the audience.
