Up till now, I've noticed that not one of the Olive Signature titles has actually sold out. And I find it kind of interesting that when Olive introduced the limited-edition model for the series, they warned: "This also means that our past Olive Signature DVDs and Blu-rays will be going out of print, so act now to purchase your own"

Over a year later now, this hasn't happened.

I mean, we can bitch and moan about the limited edition model many boutique labels are employing lately, but it obviously works to drive immediate sales versus waiting for it to come down six months or a year down the road

The Invasion of the Body Snatchers set is selling quickly, with all 5,000 copies already sent to retailers. Granted, they'll probably be increasing the copy number when the remaining Blu-rays are sold. Call me a schmuck, but I ordered it just in case.

Same. I didn't expect it to sell out so quickly, but figured I might as well snag it while I have the chance without rolling the dice. DeepDiscount had it for 45% off anyways so it was cheaper than most of the Olive Signature line so didn't hurt too badly.

DD have now raised the price but they also just started an Olive BOGO sale, so I was able to pick up this and Letter from an Unknown Woman for $14 each

I already ordered that blu-ray earlier this month from WowHD at $30.37 but the other Olive blu-rays are discounted so I will look at their selection.

Thanks for the heads-up on WowHD everyone, definitely picking up Invasion and A New Leaf. Sure beats the heck out of paying ~$40 each on amazon.ca.

Now that I think of it, aside from their Signature collection I've basically ignored everything else released by Olive. For a long time I had the mistaken impression that the rest of their output was of modest-or-worse quality, and couple that with amazon.ca's aforementioned exorbitant pricing I was quite put off but I'm about to load up my cart during this WowHD sale.

I've glanced through some random reviews and past posts in this thread but considering the depth of their catalogue, I was hoping to ask people here for more of their Olive suggestions. No write-ups required, I trust the forum's opinions on interesting films and the quality of their presentations. Thanks guys.

I'm pretty disappointed with the Olive Signature BD of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It really does look like a dupe was used, and unfortunately, we may not be able to improve on this. I found Robert A. Harris's otherwise positive review for this and he says:

Unfortunately, [the movie] was created during an unfortunate era in the world of cinema: SuperScope.

Photographed open matte, presumably designed for projection in 1.85, it has ended up overly cropped, with seemingly no means of correcting the problem. How both an original negative, as well as a fine grain protection master, could both go missing is beyond me, but that's the rumor.

What remains is a 2:1 anamorphic image, presumably from a dupe printing negative...

It's the best it can look, you can't blame Olive for doing all any label could and including a ton of supplements to boot

No, the did not acquire Tanelorn Films. The rights Tanelorn Films held expired and Olive licensed the films.

Looking at the screen captures for The Believers (The Belbeavers? http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompar ... lu-ray.htm), I noticed that a lot of films from ~1988-1996 have been color-graded with a wash of coral/cream-sickle that saturates the image. This is prevalent in a bunch of films of the era, and is most noticeable on stuff like mid-tier films like Home for the Holidays, Radio Flyer, and Schlesinger's Pacific Heights. Is this sickly orange pallor that era's version of orange-and-teal? Something to do with the home video mastering? I can't unsee it now. Please advise.

It’s an older HD telecine, a lot of these, particularly MGM’s masters, have a magneta push because they were largely intended for tv broadcast.
