Vice (Adam McKay, 2018)

#1 Post by domino harvey »

Sam Rockwell will play George W Bush alongside Christian Bale's Cheney and Amy Adams as Cheney's wife in Adam McKay's next film-- superb casting with Rockwell. Maybe this will finally net him his ridiculously overdue Oscar

I read that as meaning Adam McKay’s ridiculously overdue Oscar and almost choked to death

Looks like Bale is up to his old tricks again.

It's a shame his weight fluctuations and character ticks have overshadowed his acting

He looks like Syd Barrett in the mid-70's

The real victim here will be his body. The body can certainly gain and lose weight at intervals but the doing it constantly and rapidly has a major effect on it. Both Robert De Niro and Tom Hanks have developed Diabetes (Type 2 obviously) because of this. I wouldn't be shocked if ten, fifteen years down the line he's handed a diagnosis.

Give the person who came up with the thread title an award.

mfunk is out to slowly drive domino insane with thread titles.

I'm eager to see how this turns out. Bush has certainly been lampooned before but I'll be interested in seeing what McKay and Co. can do.

Weren't "health concerns over weight gain" the reason Bale dropped out of Michael Mann's Enzo Ferrari film? But now he's gaining weight for this film?

Bale indeed dropped this one, but it might have been just too soon after his weight gain for The Big Short (so not just only a question of changing his weight, but how fast he would have needed to achieve it).

This movie sounds like a mess: according to our pal Jeff Welles, McKay's current cut has removed two major comic set pieces in order to make the film more serious: a musical number and a Shakespeare sequence that was said to be one of Adams' main scenes. Rockwell's role is said to be little more than a cameo at this point

I know better then to take Wells without a grain of salt, but it sounds like McKay has caught a bad case of Hazanavicius syndrome.

I find this to be a very funny lack of reading the room (or the forum as it were) and I support such rascalry

He means that there are some vocal defenders of Hazanavicius on this forum. For proof, look no further than the Le Redoutable thread (and the Le Redoutable poster hanging on my wall)

Fair enough, I guess I remembered the reactions in that thread as vaguely sarcastic/patronising but reading it now it's much more sincere then I remember.

I don't imagine many on this forum would object if I stated that that McKay's head first charge into mature cinema seems both self-important and half-baked.

This is very disappointing news as a lover of Rockwell and Adams.

Maybe they'll be included as deleted scenes on a future home media release.

Bale's make-up makes him look more like Chevy Chase than DIck Chenney.
