Someone just made reference to Zulawski's Diabel + On the Silver Globe in a Tweet thread with Fran Simeoni, to which he responded:

"This is very realistic and might be a mere question of waiting! Fingers crossed..."

I had asked about On the Silver Globe specifically on the Second Run suggestions thread about 6 months ago, and MichaelB mentioned Arrow had no plans for older Zulawski titles. Sounds like they might have changed their minds... :)

Wouldn't this be referencing Mondo Vision as oppose to Arrow?

He's since followed up to say that they're not with Arrow, but he thinks they're with "another great label". I'd guess Second Run, given that they have the rights to Third Part of the Night already?

According to the Arrow Video podcast, the hosts suggest that the August announcements will include two steelbooks featuring "two otherwise unconnected films that have unique takes on what happens after you die"

Steelbooks usually means high-profile titles, which I doubt any Academy title would be considered to be.

Arrow Video's twitter posted about a "proof for an upcoming SteelBook release has just landed at Arrow HQ! Any guesses on what it could be?"

You guys are terrible at this. It's obviously Vincent Ward's timeless masterpiece What Dreams May Come. I mean Jesus it couldn't be any more obvious. It's the best film about death, heaven and reincarnation EVER MADE.

That's great, although I had my fingers crossed for a Christopher Walken double of The Dead Zone and especially Brainstorm! (Similar to the way that Mark Kermode incessantly champions Douglas Trumbull's Silent Running, I'll always love the wonderfully emotionally moving Brainstorm!)

Arrow Video Streaming

#266 Post by kidc85 »

Not exactly sure how recent this is, but it's news to me: Arrow Video have a 'channel' on Amazon Prime UK. It's essentially an add-on for £5pm that gives you access to an expanding, but currently limited selection of Arrow titles. Highlights include the complete Stray Cat Rock collection, the American Horror Project films, the Nikkatsu Diamond Guys, the Battles Without Honour and Humanity saga, and some relatively recent releases like Caltiki and most of their 2017 giallo output. The volume is still small (63) but seeing as I'm interested in watching pretty much all of them, I think a fiver a month is pretty fair. Will be interesting to see whether they rotate the collection a la Mubi, or whether it's just going to keep expanding.

Isn't this the Friday/Monday that they should've made announcements? It always seems to fall right before CC's announcements.

Maybe they were intimidated after Indicator's October and Eureka's King Hu acquisition yesterday morning were completely stepped on and thrown out to the curb by Criterion's announcement?

(I think there have been Academy announcements that have fallen after Criterion in the past, but yes, this seems like it might be the latest month yet assuming they are doing it next weekend)

I don't think the new site is coming until October or November or so, and the sale seems to have went down very well going by how many things weren't in stock for an extended period of time, so it's probably that. Or just that they didn't have the announcements ready, which is also possible.

Maybe we should pay attention to Amazon this weekend. The titles could sneak out as preorders.

...are people really that jazzed for a $400 box of Olympic documentaries?

Easy pass from me. Much more excited for MoC's Legend of the Mountain.

BTW, I think some replies from Arrow on Twitter regarding announcements leads me to believe we'll be getting them next Wednesday (Video) and Friday (Academy) - unless there's some sort of delay, in which case it'd be Friday (Video) and the following Monday (Academy). This'll probably be the last full line-up of the year, so I reckon they could squeeze out at least one more box set...unless they save one for December.

As long as there's someone who's planning/willing to buy it at full retail at a museum gift shop, why shouldn't they be?

As with the BFI's British Transport Films releases (twelve two-disc volumes to date), there may well be a substantial market for this outside the usual one for Criterion releases.
