Video's lineup for the month is kind of... amazing?

No, I just had kind of gotten into a groove of looking forward to the Academy announcements and maybe there'd be something interesting in Video, no more than one a month, but I'll definitely be picking up at least three of these and am seriously tempted by two more. Fish Called Wanda is a very, very high-profile get for Arrow, particularly in the US, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what other things might be getting the fancy Arrow 4K remaster treatment in both territories from the MGM vault.

(Day of the Jackal's been something I've been waiting for, but I never really figured any actually good label would get around to it!)

I'd have guessed the Day of the Jackal but I wouldn't have wanted to annoy Arrow by speculating in this manner about it!

With today's Godard/Gorin set announcement, that's the third confirmed Gaumont-sourced Godard release coming from Arrow. I wonder if they'll have got any more from the Gaumont catalog?

Perhaps a Sonimage set with Comment ça va, Ici et ailleurs and Numero deux? I'm guessing that BBFC fees would make Six fois deux and France/tour/détour/deux enfants impossible financially.

Fran tweeted about The Apartment, given some of the MGM remasters being put out by Arrow I wouldnt be surprised if a 4k restored Academy release is forthcoming.

Which I would buy in the blink of an eye, of course. Pure, distilled joy, that film is.

The Apartment might be the only release I own that I would double dip on purely to get better cover art. The MGM is just...yikes.

For me it's mostly about the original mono audio.

The greatest film ever (IMHO), any improvement would be appreciated and purchased quick snap.

On another note, Arrow responded to my suggestion of a Philippe Garrel box set saying it's something they'll "definitely consider". Fingers crossed they go one step further than considering it!

My guess would be The Good The Bad The Ugly.

Hopefully the old favorite is The Conformist.

Tag is Arrow Video, so it's probably not Bertolucci.

I'd be surprised if they went for it alone, without the other two Dollars films. Plus, wouldn't it be licensed from MGM rather than anyone in Italy?

I think What a Disgrace's reading of "old favorite in 4K" as meaning a previous BD release from Arrow is probably a good bet, I just imagine it's not for Academy. Could very easily just be House by the Cemetery, the first Arrow blu release.

Also, all three of those films are getting 4k treatment, not just TGTBTU.

How many more Argento titles are forthcoming this year?

One more, Cat o' 9 Tails, or more as others have suggested elsewhere?

If it's two titles I wonder if Inferno will get refisited as all the others did. Tenebrae, Deep Red, Phenomena and Bird with the Crystal Plumage obviously all blew away Arrow's previous releases. And Inferno is from dated source materials.

Gonna guess it's some Bava, Fulci or Argento...or all three. One a 4K upgrade of an older master, the other two new to UK Blu-ray entirely.

Still hoping Arrow can somehow get Planet of the Vampires at some point. Ditto more Spaghetti Westerns - one or two Leone's would be great, especially The Good, the Bad & the Ugly or perhaps they could convince MGM to let them restore A Fistful of Dynamite/Duck You, Sucker! Also would be down for The Great Silence (Corbucci), Death Rides a Horse (Petroni), Face to Face (Sollima)...

PS: Wanted Eureka to grab The Big Gundown (Sollima) in their Sony deal. Fingers crossed it isn't done and dusted quite yet!

Bless this post. Seriously. You've outlined almost everything I could want and more. My only experience with The Great Silence was the incredibly poor Fantoma version here in the States. I'd be elated to see Arrow make a new transfer.

I had hoped that Django Unchained would have spurred more companies to take an interest in Spaghetti Westerns again but alas...

Great Silence surely must be on Arrow's radar - it's mentioned all the time, either here or on Blu-ray or on social media (surely in part due to Tarantino citing it as the biggest influence on Hateful Eight, amongst other reasons). Is there any reason to suspect they wouldn't be able to license it (or are the elements in bad shape?)

rapta and I have gushed over the film before and I can't remember specifics but I think it's either rights or the quality of film materials. Or both.

The Great Silence just got a new restoration, but I believe Michael or someone from Arrow directly have said that it is with another company.
