Re: Criterion Newsletter: Clues and More, Volume Four
Google has informed me, among other things, that rolltop desks generally have a chest of drawers underneath, not just bare legs. It may be a grill. Also, there's nothing about the turtle shown that is especially Mock-y. I think the case isn't closed on this one.

Dinosaur in an old fashioned box -- what else could it be but the complete JURASSIC PARK series?
I still think MONSTER IN A BOX.

Monster in a Box would presumably show a monster in a box in the clue. Give it up fellas, it's obv His Girl Friday

We still have that Queen of Hearts card from the New Years clue left unresolved... hmm :-kcomicfan1969 wrote:Oh yeah. I'd forgotten about that line, which played on the fact that Cary Grant played the Mock Turtle in Alice in Wonderland.swo17 wrote:Bingo. Bonus points for this not being a clue for Pan's Labyrinth.

I wonder if they'll include any of the other adaptations in the release?

If it's HIS GIRL FRIDAY (which I also say it is), then why the turtle?

As already said it is a mock turtle referencing a line from the film.

So its either Polan really screwed up or the Queen of Hearts indicates a different clue.

The queen of hearts was riding in a car similar to the one JFK died in. The JFK campaign distributed playing cards with Jackie O. as the Queen of Hearts. Therefore that clue was The Robert Drew JFK films.

Tree of Life featured dinosaurs and if I remember correctly old styled desks.
EDIT: Read the His Girl Friday comments so cross out my remark.

the turtle is actually some sort of uncharacteristically friendly apex reptile and it's been caught in a tight trap which is inescapable from all ends therefore it's a blu box set of NBC's The Complete To Catch A Predator series. I wonder if Criterion managed to snag interviews with most of the "participants" that wound up getting arrested. Stoked.

Re: Criterion Newsletter: Clues and More, Volume Four
Based on the roll-top desk alone, my first guess was His Girl Friday, but I was still trying to figure out how John Qualen or "Earl Williams" could be clued by a dinosaur! I hadn't recalled the "mock turtle" line so that cinches it.

If that does mean His Girl Friday, what are the chances of Bringing Up Baby? I recently watched it on TCM in HDbut the quality was very poor. Any hope this amazing film ever gets a scrub and a proper restoration?

My first instinct was an already somewhat announced title, DRAGON GATE INN. I mean, it's kind of a Dragon gated in.... you know what I mean?

His Girl Friday is with Sony, Bringing Up Baby is with WB, so one has nothing to do with the other as far as licensing to Criterion. While it's not unthinkable that WB could license it to Criterion, I think it's more likely to be a Warner Archive release.jmj713 wrote:If that does mean His Girl Friday, what are the chances of Bringing Up Baby? But what about a restoration? Have there been any rumors on that? The HD transfer on TCM looks pretty shabby. I realize it's an old film but still.

I agree, Baby is unlikely. But isn't His Girl Friday public-domain?Feego wrote:His Girl Friday is with Sony, Bringing Up Baby is with WB, so one has nothing to do with the other as far as licensing to Criterion.
