They confirmed that Shout was releasing it? I thought Shout had often denied they had the rights - thus we were all assuming Criterion was handling it.Ribs wrote:A poster over at Blu-ray's forums has heard from Nancy Allen that a remastered SE of Carrie is due October 11.
As ever, one hopes that Arrow will be releasing this as well.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
The poster didn't actually name the company. The poster asked her if Criterion or Shout was releasing it. The poster blocked out the company for some reason. But it's assumed it's one of those two, though some hope Arrow.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
There's not enough space in the response to fit Criterion - I always got the impression Criterion was closer-to-the-wire and release dates and targeted dates change behind-the-scenes all the time and they don't notify all the participants of exactly when to expect a release out, so I think it's far more likely Shout. It could be Arrow I suppose but this would be an unusually hyper-high-profile title if it's for Arrow US (as I assume it would be based on Nancy Allen's not adding that it's an international release).

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
I'm glad someone is working on reissuing Carrie. I don't care who it is as long as they come up with a better cover than this atrocity:

Graham Humphreys (who has illustrated for Arrow and Scream) debuted some lovely new Carrie artwork on his Facebook page recently; assuming it's for this, I think you'll be pleased.

It would also be great if a label could find a way of releasing the very Carrie-inspired (albeit with the main girl having a psychic snake-charming link rather than actual telekenisis!) Jennifer!

That's good to hear! But what I like about Scream Factory is that their covers are usually reversible, with the original poster art (which I tend to prefer) on the reverse side.Graham Humphreys (who has illustrated for Arrow and Scream) debuted some lovely new Carrie artwork on his Facebook page recently; assuming it's for this, I think you'll be pleased.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
Fantastic! And they've brought back the special features from the MGM DVD, which were dropped from the most recent Blu-ray release.
The new cover is good but I do hope the original poster will be included on the reverse side.

So this almost definitely will be coming from Arrow, too, right? I feel kind of bad that pretty much everything Scream puts out I hold off on in hope that it comes from Arrow.

The Exorcist III has been confirmed for October 25th; also, a "director's cut" of the film is being assembled for this release.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
I like the theatrical version a lot (and these issues are nothing compared to the two entirely different films by two different directors created out of the fourth prequel film) but The Exorcist III is notorious for having the actual exorcism climax featuring Jason Miller seemingly forced on the filmmakers. It is a bit of a tonal swerve after the majority of the film aside from some jolting moments being more subdued. It will be interesting to see if this is the much talked about "Legion" cut of the film.

I saw Exorcist III in the theater when it first came out.
Spoiler
The Nurses station scene with the sheers is still jolting.

Oh, I thought Blatty's wife said Kermode and co searched the archives years ago and didn't find anything. I liked Exorcist III a lot too, apart from the enforced ending and the score.AfterTheRain wrote:The Exorcist III has been confirmed for October 25th; also, a "director's cut" of the film is being assembled for this release.
Slow clap for the cover, though, especially for spoiling the scene with the nurse. #-o(....) putting together a version of the film that will be close to Blatty's original script using a mixture of various film and video tape sources that we have been provided with.
At least the theatrical poster will be on the reverse!

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
Shout Factory has announced some limited issue titles.
**FIVE LIMITED-RUN NEW TITLES SOLD EXCLUSIVELY AT OUR SITE**
If you’re a fan of fun schlocky 70s and 80s B-films then you’ll definitely want to read on. We are offering FIVE exploitation titles from that period for the first time on Blu-ray! Bloodsuckers, aliens, sea creatures...there’s something for everybody!
In August:
DEATHSTALKER (1983) / DEATHSTALKER II (1987)
UP FROM THE DEPTHS (1979)
-------
In September:
MESSAGE FROM SPACE (1978)
TIMEWALKER (1982)
THE VELVET VAMPIRE (1971)
Limited-run 1,000 units will be pressed for each title. Pre-order and purchase is only available at our site.
These films were chosen because we had existing high-definition masters and we thought they had enough of a cult appeal to warrant a small release. That being said, we consider this an “experiment” to gauge interest from you. If we find that this kind of offer is successful we may consider executing a similar promotion in the future for other similar obscure genre catalog titles that we have.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
Just read a review of Two Minute Warning which revealed that the TV version included is literally sourced from a VHS recording off TNT, complete with TNT logo in the corner! Apparently the copy Universal had bit it in the fire a few years back and Shout was only able to acquire this by outsourcing to a fan.

That must have been the Universal lot fire in 2008 where some of the TV prints and tapes burned. http://www.foxnews.com/story/2008/06/01 ... ideos.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I imagine a restoration of some of some of it could be accomplished by finding original film elements, but I wonder if some of the made for TV elements were shot in tape.

Re: Shout! Factory / Scream Factory
I've not seen the TV version (or I may have back in '81 and forgot about it!), but Universal did the same treatment to Earthquake a few years earlier and the newer material for that film was definitely shot on 35mm, so I doubt the added Two Minute Warning footage was shot on tape.captveg wrote: ...I imagine a restoration of some of some of it could be accomplished by finding original film elements, but I wonder if some of the made for TV elements were shot on tape...
