Do we have a thread like this for the Boston area? I just saw a lovely 70mm print of Vertigo at the Somerville theater, and the programmer mentioned they're planning a whole 70mm festival this fall (which he's apparently been working on for something like a decade.)

He's also speaking at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on May 19th.

Terence Davies retrospective at the Museum of Moving Images in May. He will be in NY for one of the screenings. Maybe he'll stop by Criterion in prep for Distant Voices, Still Lives. Fingers crossed.

I think I wrote about this here, but I saw him (and Rachel Weisz) when they came to BAM to premiere The Deep Blue Sea. Paul Dano was even there and I'm guessing he was a huge admirer because he quickly found his way to Davies afterwards just to talk to him.

Huge fan of his work and not surprisingly an engaging speaker (check out his BBC television intro to 2001 on YouTube), but the best part was when he took a moment to dump on the Beatles - he absolutely hates their music and the way he phrased it made no acknowledgment to how beloved or influential they remain or ever were. Quite possibly my favorite group, but I heartily enjoyed his hatred for their work, it was very amusing.

Yes indeed - he shows some archival of the Beatles singing, but he wipes out the sound and inserts his own voice, bitterly and sarcastically singing "yeah, yeah, yeah!"

For a guy who adores classical and vintage pop music, I'm surprised he hasn't found something to like about the Beatles - I can only guess that it's a thorough hatred for all things in rock.

I'm guessing it will be the same 35mm print that's in the possession of Bard College, and which recently toured around North America with the massive Hou Hsiao-Hsien retrospective. A little beat up, but great colors and no splices.

Last I read about it, it could still legally be screened as long as Robert Frank was in attendance. Frank is still alive, but he's also 91. Is he going to be there?

I saw this a couple years ago at the National Gallery, and if Frank was there, nobody said anything. Which would be weird, unless he wanted to be incognito for some reason.

Lincoln Center is holding a Kickstarter campaign to renovate the Walter Reade Theater.

One of the $50 donation gifts is a one-year Film Lover membership, which is typically $75 if you buy it on your own (except for an anniversary coupon from about 5 years back, I don't think I've ever seen it discounted), so if you were planning to get one, you'd be a fool not to do this.

Tickets are $9 for regularly-priced screenings at the Walter Reade Theater and the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (compared with $11 for students/senior and $14 for the general public). Members receive discount tickets prices to most special events and the New York Film Festival.

How many tickets can I purchase with my membership?
For a single membership account, two tickets per screening may be purchased at the member price, with unlimited additional tickets at the general public price. For a dual membership account, four tickets per screening may be purchased at the member price, with unlimited additional tickets at the general public price. Please note: During any early access period, only member-priced tickets may be purchased. There is a two ticket limit for all members and patrons during the New York Film Festival and other select events.

I just picked up the old Kino DVD of Sudden Fear on a whim. Haven't watched yet, but glad to see it got a Cohen restoration. Bummed to see a quarter with so few 35mm prints though.
