No point in buying The Cremator right now unless you're desperate to see it: it's been earmarked for full 4K restoration by the Czech National Film Archive, which hopefully means a BD at some point down the line.

Can I take you posting this release here as a confirmation that the intertitle cards are subbed? This looks really charming and the restoration, from the video I've looked at (if representative) is gorgeous, but that page doesn't mention anything.

My copy of this has just arrived, direct from the NFA shop as part of an order of 10 items.

I've not played it yet, but I think the whole package is almost certainly 100% English-friendly - all the printed information
is in both Czech and English. Subtitles are listed as Czech (captioned), and English.

The disc is housed in a fold-out card digi-pack, with some dual-language biog notes on the pack itself,
and a small, nicely-informative 24-page dual-language booklet, that slots into the inside cover.

The film, (106 min.) is described here as 'A crazy comedy, in which Vlasta Burian tries to duck out of marrying Anny Ondráková'.

The bonus items are ...

Interviews:
- Ivan Klimeš on the career of Vlasta Burian
- Jan Ledecký on technical print toning
- Neuvěřitelno on composing music for the film

Bonus film:
- 'Lupič' ('Robber')
Production: Alois Mecera, 6 min., b/w, 1927
This is described as the first-ever film 'trailer'! - it's a short humorous 'advert' for the main film.

Trailer:
- 'An Old Gangster's Molls'

Vlasta Burian's co-star here, Anny Ondráková, is of course the Anny Ondra who went on to star in Hitchcock's The Manxman and Blackmail in 1929,
two years after this film.

Just to confirm what I strongly suspected in my preceding post, the NFA's DVD edition of 'Milenky starého kriminálníka' - ('An Old Gangster's Molls') - is completely English-friendly.

All the printed material is translated, as are the feature's title-cards, and all the bonus materials.

A really nice set.

Apologies if this has been covered before (I looked but didn't see any updates since 2013) but does anyone have information on whether the restoration of Limonádový Joe been completed?

Um, what kind of news do you expect? FWIW, it's available on DVD (no English subtitles though).

The Czech Film Foundation doesn't seem to have this bit of information on their English website, but the Czech page here says "Digitální restaurování se připravuje" (Scheduled for digital restoration) next to Limonádový Joe.

It's probably worth posting a warning that the current BD of Limonádový Joe is most definitely not restored, or at least not to contemporary high-definition standards. I suspect it came from the same master that fuelled the now rather elderly DVD.

Does anyone know when the documentary ZKAZA KRASOU (Doomed Beauty) (2016) about Czech film actress Lida Baarova who had an affair with Hitler's Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels will be released on dvd or blu-ray? The sales distributor is Aerofilms.

The two animated short films Střevíček (1937) and Pohádka o Popelce (1944) are also available as part of the English-friendly Czech Animated Film I. / Cesky animovany film I. (1920-1945). Stunning release btw, possibly OOP though. Fortunately got a copy like immediately when it came out.

Copies do occasionally pop up - I bought the three-disc set some time after it apparently went OOP.
