Six times is no shocker. His films don't exactly bear the mark of a man sensitive to the concerns of women.

Then again, Bergman's do, and he's no model monogamist.

Anchor Bay UK has listed the following Wenders films as future releases for some time now. It is very likely that 6 out of 8 films in the box announced in Region 1 will be the ones listed there. They are: Room 666, Scarlet Letter, State of Things, Tokyo-Ga, Trick of the Light, and The Wrong Move. I hope Golie's anxiety at the panelty Kick and Kings of the road are the remaining ones, but they are not listed on the UK site.

Stuart Galbraith recently posted a review of Anchor Bay's British War Collection over at DVD Talk. For the most part, I agree with his positive evaluation of the films themselves. But he claims that The Dam Busters (1954) and The Ship that Died of Shame (1955) appear to have been filmed in widescreen whereas they are presented on these DVDs in fullframe. I don't know about the second movie, as this was the first time I'd ever seen it, but I've seen Dam Busters several times, including once in the UK, and it's always been shown in fullframe. It even looks like it was composed that way -- at least to my eyes.

So is Galbraith wrong? Or is there any way to verify what the original aspect ratio of these films were? I searched on IMDB and Google and couldn't come up with anything. It would surprise me if Anchor Bay dropped the ball on this one, as they've been very good about respecting OAR. Also, it seems to me that the British film industry didn't completely make the transition to the widescreen format until the late 50's.

specs are up for the 2 disc version of Freaked, this really sounds like The Bay went all out. Here are the specs from Fangoria:

The eight films included in the Wim Wenders Collection Box 2 have now been specified elsewhere on this forum. I was dismayed to see that three out of eight films are essentially the ones previously released. Does this mean that if we want the 5 new ones we have to buy the first 3 again? Also, the names of a couple of films are mentioned only in German. Since I do not know the German language, could someone please translate? Thank you.

There's a thread devoted specifically to the Wenders Collection here. To answer your last question, "Aufzeichnungen zu Kleidern und Städten" is "Notebooks on Cities and Clothes" (the English title transposes "cities" and "clothes") and "Die Gebrüder Skladanowsky" is "The Brothers Skladanowsky" (although the official English title seems to be "A Trick of the Light").

Just wondering if anyone's got the Anchor Bay Herzog/Kinski box set, and if so, can you comment on the transfers and overall value of owning these on DVD? Contemplating a blind buy. Thanks.

I thought this set was a terrific bargain (as I did not yet have any of these on DVD). The transfers look decent -- and Herzog's commentaries (alas, not on every film) are excellent.

Has the Wenders Collection Vol.2 been postponed? No sign of it on the AB site, although the announcement of Bette Davis in The Anniversary makes up for it in some small way.

Dellamorte Dellamore seems to have fallen off of the "In the Future" page, with no explanation that I can see. I sent an e-mail inquiry, for what it's worth.

Is there really an audience for this? I mean, I understand that there's a value in digitally encoding all film as a historical record of the times, but I also think some phenomema ought to be allowed a peaceful passing from our collective memory.

Anybody know if it's likely that Anchor Bay could re-release their 2nd disc of The Wicker Man Limited edition boxset, the extended director's cut?

I just saw the theatrical film a week ago and fell in love with the movie, only to find it nearly impossible to get a copy of the proper version. I borrowed it from a friend of mine and found it to be quite superior to the theatrical version, short of a few needless expositional moments. I would very much like to put money into Anchor Bay's pockets but they are forcing me to find less scrupulous ways of scoring a copy of that cut.

I am horrifed to see that a remake is coming, but equally pleased to see the followup is due for production in a few months. With both the remake and sequel coming, isn't it a rational assumption that they'll find a way to put that version back on the market? I emailed them with that question, and as usual, they didn't bother responding... just like with they did over my defective Dawn disc.
