Can I take you posting this release here as a confirmation that the intertitle cards are subbed? This looks really charming and the restoration, from the video I've looked at (if representative) is gorgeous, but that page doesn't mention anything.

The bilingual cover suggests that it's a reasonably safe bet.

So is this a different restoration from the Blu-ray triple bill that the Karel Zeman Museum put out? I'm hoping yes, obviously, but it would be good to know for certain.

Thanks for that, admira.

I've just had a look at the page where they list all the other films they're currently in the process of digitally restoring (http://www.theczechfilmfoundation.com/our-projects" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and there are some real gems, many of which have been previously issued on DVD here in the UK by Second Run: Intimate Lighting, The Cremator, Diamonds Of The Night, Daisies, The Ear.

My hope is that now that Second Run have finally decided to start releasing blu-rays (Pedro Costa's Horse Money is due for release in March next year) they'll also see fit to bring out English-friendly HD versions of some or all of these films as well, once they're available.

There seems to be a strong correlation between that list and the top ten of the 1998 Czech and Slovak critics' poll.

But that's no bad thing.

There is that. But whither the Elo Havetta? That's what I'm waiting for.

Why would anyone prefer this to the Second Run edition?

Can someone say a little more about this? Who is this animator, what does this set contain, etc.? Looks very intriguing, but there is little information in English on the web.

Svatopluk Pitra (9. March 1923, Vysoké Mýto, Czechoslovakia - 15. July 1993, New York, USA).
This set contains short animation Tucet mých tatínků (1959) designed by Pitra, poster, art work and interviews.

So is the new stand-alone BD of the Jules Verne film a significant enough improvement over the version on the Zeman BD Collection to double-dip?
