Pfffft, that's it? Rivette directed over 30 films and Arrow could only make room for five of them on here? Some "collection".

Not even five. One of them is just a cut-down version of one of the others, probably carried out by some hack who was ordered to make it shorter.

It's pretty crazy that they're able do Yoshida and then this just a month later. So much stuff getting released properly in English-friendly stuff for the first time in years and years.

It's essentially like I pay a second rent to Arrow at this point.

How many box sets has Criterion released this year again?

When you've lost Criterion10, you've lost America.

Edit: of course, we're likely to see the release of The Apu Trilogy box this year, so while it's been a pretty so-so year, they have finally restored one of the most important film trilogies of all time.

And, while it may just be a rumor, the Before Trilogy was also said to come out by the end of this year by a Criterion rep at a festival screening (I can't remember which one).

For the record: I still love Criterion, but just haven't been as wowed as usual by their slate as usual this year. Then again, they've still had plenty of great releases.

This arrow release looks very interesting - is "Merry-Go-Round" also included on the French Carlotta upcoming "Out 1" (combo DVD+Blu-Ray) ???

please Arrow or Criterion release on blu-ray "La Belle Noiseuse" [-o<

I'm kind of... let's say... fond of Emmanuelle Béart... and œuf course painting and litteratude
I bought in Japan "La Belle Noiseuse" (First, my main concern was to check that it was the complete movie (not the "short" edit supervised by Rivette) then probably the main concern was to check if this was "foufoune" blurried (don't google-translate it's a bit dirty).
Well, that's how I discover what they call in Japan "Remastered Edition".
that means that the blu-ray was just an upscale (and 1080i with a lot of juggering)
There has been a half or quarter definition broadcast on French TV (digital) and it has more details.
It's almost blurry.
If I take my DVD (Arte) and upscale it, it looks as good- or even better...

well, I guess I deserved in a way to be punished...

Le "Pont Du Nord" by MoC/Eureka Blu-Ray on the other hand looks just fine.
Too bad they didn't get the rights for La Belle Noiseuse....

Incredible release, many many years coming. Hats off to Arrow for stepping up and doing right by Rivette, finally.

The early bird pricing has been extended to Sept. 8th.

Which in turn makes me a bit upset as I believe we're due for a sale the first week of September and that'd in turn result in double rewards points for those wait.

Come on now, both labels continue to put out exclusive and valuable content that the other lacks. For example, even if they snagged Rivette, I would be shocked if Arrow manages a decent release of Jellyfish Eyes.

This announcement is incredible. Will buy in early September. :-" :-" :-"

Out 1 has always been one of those out-of-reach films for me, so excited to finally see it.

The sad truth is that Jellyfish Eyes will probably take up a spot in the November (or December) line-up.

Can you imagine being MichaelB, knowing this was in the works and having to read the endless streams of people here wanting Rivette, crying out for Rivette, pleading to the Gods for Rivette, and still saying nothing? Truly a man with a strong constitution

It was quite a pleasant sensation reading all the speculation and knowing that the package that was going to be unveiled was far, far bigger than anyone dared hope, yes.

Although Anthony Nield is the overseer of this one - I daresay I'll be roped into subtitle proofing at some stage (kill me now), but my involvement with this project thus far has been close to zero.

Good grief, this is astonishing. We all knew OUT 1 was coming eventually, but wasn't the Arte edition DVD-only? I wouldn't have complained if it never made it to blu-ray: the logistics and the ability to pull a profit out of something like this must be ridiculous. I'm assuming that most (if not all?) of us have only ever seen it in a version that looks like the picture below (couldn't find an example of the subtitles on top of subtitles that you have to deal with), so anything would have been wonderful. Especially if it included SPECTRE (whose bootleg is completely unwatchable). But then it's being released by Arrow, on blu-ray, with DUELLE/NOROIT and MERRY-GO-ROUND as well? D+N are gorgeous movies which will look fantastic in blu-ray and MGR - has it ever had an English-friendly release? Goddamn!

Hopefully this sells enough to convince Arrow to save Rivette's other long (and long-time MIA) epic, L'Amour fou

Absolut Medien put out a DVD in Germany. It looks better than your screencap, but the image was squished for the first section of the movie. Presumably Arrow will have resolved that issue.

The actual restoration is being carried out by CNC in France, and Arrow and Carlotta are handling the UK and French releases, respectively.

Apparently the cost of restoring Out 1 was an eye-watering €700,000.

I would be both very surprised indeed and utterly horrified if that issue hadn't been fully addressed.

Put it like this: Arrow is well aware of the issue and knows what to look out for at the QC stage.
