I think Cover Up is with Ignite Films and not with MGM. I hope Robert Florey's The Crooked Way is not far behind.

They are also releasing At War with the Army on blu in March. They are likely to use Ignite Films source and not from the vaults of Paramount.

The Planet of the Vampires Blu-ray looks beautiful, and this is a film that really needs to given that its best sequences involve rolling fog banks (my favourite shot is the post-burial one where even as the other characters are leaving the scene the tendrils of fog immediately start swirling in to invade the grave and reanimate the bodies).

I have not done a particularly detailed comparison but from Tim Lucas's comments in his commentary track it looks as if this Blu-ray is a new, hybrid version of the Italian and US versions of the film, with the English language dubbed track (no Italian track with subtitles) including the US opening and closing titles but also including some of the short extensions to sequences only found in the Italian cut of the film. I've not seen the shorter US dubbed cut before, which I think was the one previously released by MGM on DVD, but everything from the longer Italian DVD seems to be here (and the disc even includes the less elaborate opening and closing Italian titles for posterity!)

When choosing what to feature as the reversible sleeve art on Arrow's BD, we had the dilemma that there were two "original 1973 posters" - the one with Elliott Gould and the gun, and the Jack Davis artwork.

Although it was a pretty easy decision, since the Davis artwork simply didn't work as a BD cover - it was clearly designed to be appreciated at much greater magnification.

But I was able to track down a version of the Davis artwork without speech bubbles, and that's reproduced on the back cover of the booklet. (The version with speech bubbles appears on the disc itself - the HD resolution means that they're readable).

The same hybrid version was on the MGM DVD. The U.S. theatrical version was released on VHS and laserdisc (I think) by Orion, but with the Kendall Schmidt replacement score.

We will be releasing 10 titles on DVD ONLY – The Blu-ray rights for these titles are with other companies and the original MGM DVDs for all these titles are currently OUT OF PRINT. Many of these will make their Anamorphic DVD debuts...
Sounds like the titles were released on blu-ray by Twilight Time and Shout Factory, including pictured Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. At least not DVD-R's...

So, wait, Wild at Heart is to be a reissue of the DVD only, because of Twilight Time's contract for the Blu? And Convoy seems like exactly the sort of MGM title that would have to gone straight to TT in the past, complete with commentary from Redman.

Mike Siegel posted at HT Forum that he emailed Kino Lorber to have his 70-minute documentary on Convoy included. It's currently on German and UK releases from StudioCanal.

Good news re: Miracle Mile, but re: this Blu news, I'll believe it when I see it - since it's such an obscure film...

That being said, MM is one of my favorite '80's flicks (even though I didn't see it until around 2010). Kudos to whoever was responsible for releasing this on the now OOP DVD, since if not for that I would never have even heard of the film...don't remember this being in the theater at all back in '89.....I'm still kicking myself for not buying the MM DVD when I saw it @ Big Lots about three years ago for a great price. Hopefully if the Blu does come out that it will be in Anamorphic Widescreen, since IIRC the DVD was only full-screen...

The threat of nuclear war was very strong in the '80's, and this movie definitely captures that fear extremely well.
Spoiler
I thought it was poignant to see the couple (Anthony Edwards & Mare W.) start off their relationship right before the end of the world...The scenes at the end when everything started getting destroyed were tough to watch...quite horrific.

Watching it in the 21st century, it was especially amusing to see the huge cell phone that the Denise Crosby businesswoman character was using in the diner :D
