I'm pretty sure The Rugrats did a comedic take on that topic.

I just found out this thread exists, so I'll use it to express my anger towards the Television Critics Association's snub of Adventure Time in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming. How is Switched At Birth more deserving of the award than AT?

Hopefully Avatar gets it this year though. Who would have thought McCarthyism and racism would be tackled so maturely in a kids' fantasy show.

I loved Mr. Wizard's World and Don Herbert, but this is just great. Brought back lots of good memories too.

Re: Adventure Time
The Jay Ward cartoons while severely cheaper certainly had similar levels of imagination and creativity though usually that was in dialogue because like I said, cheap.Mr Sausage wrote:The season 4 episode, The Sons of Mars, is one of the weirdest, funniest things I've ever seen. Where was this level of imagination and creative freedom in the kids' shows of my youth? (tho', honestly, I've forgotten most of them, so that's not a fair question).

I remember watching Rocky & Bullwinkle and Dudley Dooright, tho' I don't remember anything about the shows themselves.

They're well worth a watch, though they're padded with repeated material to a sinful degree.

Re: Adventure Time
I actually remember Earthworm Jim being pretty wild and imaginative (and surprisingly irreverent for a kid's cartoon based on a video game). Wonder if it holds up. It was my favourite tv show when I was 8 or 9.

I guess I was an unwitting slave to Steven Spielberg as a kid, since my favorites were Freakazoid, Tiny Toons, and Animaniacs. Someone actually got me the first season of Freakazoid for my birthday 2 weeks ago. It's half clever meta-humor, a quarter dated 90s references, and a quarter sheer obnoxiousness.

I loved Freakazoid. The theme song still makes me laugh ("Something better's on TV").

Freakazoid definitely is pretty genius. I rewatched a month back the episode where he prevents Pearl Harbor and the conclusion struck me as ballsy and pretty funny (the ultimate sign that the world is improved is that Rush Limbaugh is a liberal).

I'm curious to know if anyone here has seen Steven Universe as it seems to be a very solid show so far. I know Frybo and Cat Fingers have some hilariously disturbing moments that really in a way has me appreciating as a Horror movie buff.

Re: Kids Television
Looks like a pretty dull affair. Just watch the legendary "Jessie's Song" episode from the original show and call it a day.

Mr Ratburn revealed to be gay and marries his boyfriend in the next season of Arthur— would be a little more progressive if they didn’t automatically go to the prissy intellectual character in the show to “out,” but on the other hand Mr Ratburn is also the best character so it’s cool that he’s in the news. Also Jane Lynch as Mr Ratburn’s sister? I’m there
