The Cohen Film Collection presents this classic in a restoration made in collaboration with the British Film Institute and Pinewood Studios. Of note: the newly restored edition features a one-minute sequence that was cut from the original domestic release.

Hangmen Also Die is presented in 1080p with LPCM 2.0 audio. Special features include:

Cohen really brings their A-game to the supplements and if they ever read this, I hope they know it's appreciated. In an era where Criterion seems asleep at the wheel and MOC more invested in booklets/non-disc extras, it's nice to see a lot of devotion paid to on-disc extras

I would have been happy just to get the uncut version of the film in HD, so all the extras are just icing on the cake.

Apparently there was no need for English subtitles. I pre-ordered mine from Amazon, which still says English subtitles are on the disc. Considering the list price, I'm once again disappointed.

Color does look a little, well, off, but probably not a deal breaker for me. This is a very excellent late Chabrol (which is generally awesome) that reminds me of Rivette in many places. Still looking forward to grabbing this one.

Super excited for Cavani's The Skin (La Pelle). I was waiting for this for a long time. I skipped on getting the French BD couple of years ago, when I imported a lot of Gaumont releases. The French release didn't have English sub. I am really glad to see this film finally coming out in US.

I'll be interested to see Steamboat Bill Jr. in 4k, but I'm very happy with the Kino blu-rays. They may not be pristine, but like the Scarlet Street and The Stranger releases, they look great and feel like film.

The restored Jamaica Inn was shown at Lincoln Center last week. Beautiful job...generally excellent blacks and grays, radiant 19 year old Maureen O'Hara, scenery chewing Charles Laughton, plenty of model ships floating and careening about in a tank. An enjoyable viewing for Hitchcock completists.

I wonder how much longer Kino has the Keaton blurays for. Although, I will not be surprised to see MoC start releasing the Keaton films, in light of the other Cohens MoC has announced.
