can anyone confirm if carax's Boy Meets Girl plays on Region A players as well? i'll probably order Mauvais Sang, but i'd rather order both at the same time if each one is Region A compatible.

I can confirm Boy Meets Girl is Region B only. It does not play in my Seiki when set to region A.

The Truffaut sets seem rather odd in their order of films. They are not chronological or obviously thematic. Also, no Jules et Jim, so does that mean there will be a third volume? I wonder how much they cost?

Ah yes, missed that. So that just leaves the Last Metro then out of the Artificial Eye stand alone releases. Or are there others I have missed that could be on a third volume? I wonder what the sets will cost. I'm not sure whether to buy the single editions or wait for this. Also they have five films, but six discs, so I wonder if you get more extras.

The first set is all the Antoine Doinel films with a couple others to round out the set, while volume 2 has his next biggest films as their draw. If you put all the Doinels, Shoot the Piano Player and Jules et Jim in one set the second one would look a lot weaker

I hope that the absence of Antoine and Colette is a mistake

Or the short Les mistons, on the 400 Blows disc. These commentaries and intros look to be sourced from the French MK2 editions I have on DVD. If it is included, Antoine and Colette would be on the Stolen Kisses disc.

The shorts will appear on the Blu-ray for A Gorgeous Girl Like Me

Interesting, the Truffaut BDs have optional English subs, according to the menu caps.

The commentaries will be subtitled, so the subtitles would have to be at least switchable, though I suppose they could have not had a "subtitles off" option. Most (all?) of the Truffaut discs are sourced from MK2, which was also the source of Something in the Air/Après mai, which was one recent AE disc which did have optional subtitles.

Putting the shorts on the A Gorgeous Girl Like Me disc is a bit odd, as it's not as if the 400 Blows and Stolen Kisses discs are going to be so packed that there's no room for them. (Unless these are going to be BD25s and not BD50s, but even so.) It also means that Antoine et Colette will be in different box set to the other Antoine Doinel films.

It's great for me because outside of the 400 Blows, those two shorts are the only things I'd want from the Antoine Doinel box anyways and I've never seen the film they're paired with, so it's a great deal for me. Hooray for me!

The film they're paired with is actually one of his best films. A little nutty and well thought out.

As handsome as I thought the Criterion Doinel set was, this seems like it will be a much more economical approach to collecting Truffaut's films, if you don't need the Criterion supplements.

...or the latter Doinel films, which lean decidedly to the lightweight if not downright forgettable

I can't disagree, especially that dire highlight clip film, but the set was pretty darn cute, and I can't resist my completist tendencies. But yes, a Jules & Jim or Piano Player are certainly a better selling point than some of the Doinel nonsense.
