Re: Cohen Film Collection
Anyone know if The General will get a new BR release.
Saw the new restoration in London last night -was fantastic quality, like it was filmed yesterday-never seen the Kino restoration so I can't compare.
I'm guessing they will release on BR but that's just me guessing.

I think it was said somewhere that Kino still owns the rights to the home video releases. I could be wrong though.filmyfan wrote:Anyone know if The General will get a new BR release.

Cohen's tweet answering this question:
Hopefully, the "for now" means in near future Cohen will release the 4k resto.CohenFilmCollection @CohenFilm Aug 6
@BenTestaQ The General home video rights for now are with @KinoLorber. You can see our restoration in special screenings around the US.

Re: Cohen Film Collection
^ That article suggests Cohen might eventually be releasing their own editions of the Keatons currently licensed by Kino. They could certainly benefit from, at least, a thorough digital clean-up (Cohen's Intolerance is pristine):
None of the article's five nouns ("film exhibitor, curator, preservationist, and collector and archivist") describing Raymond Rohauer are the ones that would first come to my mind!
Perhaps we'll see these outside the US first, as the Spanish Divisa release of The General suggests.Other better known Rohauer Library gems that await release include Buster Keaton's silent films... Many titles in the Rohauer Library have been released on DVD (Kino has made a cottage industry of the Keatons over the years), but in versions of varying quality...

Well, Color of Lies is a much better choice than the Lavardin flicks, but if they're dipping into the Kimstim holdings, where's L'Enfer?!

Doesn't Kimstim do Suzuki's Taisho Trilogy?

Kimstim did have the rights for the Taisho Trilogy, and they got it released through Kino originally. I don't know if they still have those rights or not?

Could this mean that Cohen will release more films that were with New Yorker Films?

It also seems that the theory that the interviews were destined for a Criterion Koker Trilogy are now in doubt does it not?

The lecture at the university is being filmed for an extra on the Cohen release of The Wind Will Carry Us, but the rumor was that Criterion was also sending operatives to Bloomington to interview Kiarostami on their own while he's in the states.NABOB OF NOWHERE wrote:It also seems that the theory that the interviews were destined for a Criterion Koker Trilogy are now in doubt does it not?

Re: Cohen Film Collection
They've added two additional Chabrol-directed TV mysteries to the Lavardin set, the Black Snail and Danger Lies in the Woods, neither of which I've seen (and I don't believe are circulating) and so now, unexpectedly, I'm interested in this set

That definitely takes the sting of double dip out. It seems that they are two episodes from a show based on the character. IMDB suggests it only lasted four episodes.

I hope this includes Kiarostami's 'masterclass' on the film from the French DVD - one of the best DVD extras I've ever seen.Ashirg wrote:The Wind Will Carry Us - 15th Anniversary Edition - July 22

Oooh. Iosseliani in HD? If his French films are anything like his Georgian works, I'm going to enjoy this release very much, with some difficulty.

Re: Cohen Film Collection
Iosseliani's French films are a bit different to his Georgian films, but share much of the same whimsical visual poetry. They're light, diffuse, Tatiesque and generally wonderful, and Favourites of the Moon is no exception. In fact, it basically established the good-natured, rambling template for his later films. It also offers the film debut of an incredibly young Mathieu Amalric. This is really great news! What A Disgrace wrote:Oooh. Iosseliani in HD?
