Slumber Party Massacre Blu-ray in 2014
Image
We're happy to report that we've gone back into our "vaults" and will be bringing the original 1982 SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE film to Blu-ray for the first time in early 2014! This will be a brand new HD transfer taken from the original camera negative. We had many requests for this and we're pleased to be able to bring this into the Scream family.

As many of you know, we released this film on DVD back in 2010 along with Parts 2 & 3 as a part of a "Roger Corman's Cult Classics" collection. For several factors (mostly financial), we can only bring you the original at this time on Blu but if sales are solid, we will certainly consider 2 & 3 for the future.

Sweet, that's the only film from the set worth watching anyways. Awesome to see it in Blu!

BREAKING: NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2014!

We're thrilled to report today that we are planning to release Brian DePalma's classic 1974 film PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE sometime in the later half of the Summer!

This marks the first time the film will be on blu-ray for the first time in the U.S. and Canada. Expect this to be in the "Collector's Edition" series with new extras but we have no other details to report at this time as our deal for this was literally just signed so stay tuned here in the Spring of next year for more info to emerge.

And L.A. Law, although they're going season-by-season on that one.

**BREAKING: TWO TITLE ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 2014!**

Fans of early 80s school-themed horror films are in luck with this news. 1981's college campus slasher film FINAL EXAM and 1982's satanic revenge epic EVILSPEAK (starring Clint Howard) will both be making their debuts on Blu-ray both for the first time this Summer!

These titles have been with Code Red - another long-time cult film home entertainment company - for some time and we are pleased that we were able to make a deal with them for these two guilty pleasures.

Expect the same extras that were on the prior Code Red DVD releases to be imported over. More details on street date and if any more extras are planned will be revealed in the new year.

Funny, I've just been watching a Directors Roundtable on the second season boxset of 'The Shield' where it was mentioned that one of the featured directors - Scott Brazil - had also worked on 'Hill Street' and I was thinking what a perfect apprenticeship that was for him.
Naturally, I was a huge fan of 'Hill Street' - backintheday - and I snapped up the two season boxsets a few years back but now I don't really want - or need - to add to that, because everything pales in comparison to The Shield, where cop shows are concerned; even venerable trailblazers like 'Kojak' - hmm; funny how it also had a shavenheaded charismatic front man.

And when I say everything, I mean everything, including the overhyped 'greatest show in the history of television, EVER', 'The Wire'

A possibly nerdy post on locations - is the brief shot of the school in Night of the Comet during the 'empty world' sequence (the shot with the abandoned bike in the foreground) the same school that was used in Halloween for the scene where the young Tommy Doyle trips over his pumpkin and then walks away while being stalked by Michael Myers?

If this is the case, I think the guy from the Horror's Hallowed Grounds series needs to get onto this right away!

Hi Criterionforum,

I have a question regarding Shout! Factory's current Buy One Get One post-Christmas sale. The gist of the sale is that if you purchase $40 or more in a single order the company will let you add another DVD from a special list for $3, and ship the entire order for only another $3. Now, I've tried to figure out how Shout! adds the $3 DVD to the order and for some reason the DVD on the list I'm interested in purchasing (Halloween III) still comes up in the shopping cart at its current price ($14.95) and not the $3 it's supposed to be marked down to, even when I have $40 of additional DVDs in my shopping cart. Do any of you have experience ordering directly from Shout/Scream? Will the $3 DVD show up in a separate order after I complete my initial $40+ order, or am I just being absent-minded in some part of the buying process?

Has Raimi disowned his involvement with "Darkman"? This was his first "big" studio pic and his training ground for "Spider-Man"-sized movie antics, and he executive-produced (for whatever that's worth) the sequels. I'm surprised the new commentary or interviews don't include him.

Great coup on getting Liam Neeson, but I admit I was kind of hoping they could get a brief comment from Jenny Agutter on her small cameo as the burn doctor! Maybe she'll turn up in that vintage making of!

Shout/Scream asked Raimi to participate in the extras for both Darkman and Crimewave but he declined. I think he had a real bad time with the studios during the making of both those films and he'd rather not revisit.

Shout! is releasing the last season of the Practice, despite seasons 2-7 being MIA-- James Spader more of a draw than Dylan McDermott?! (Duh) They're also releasing the first season of LA Law-- I think someone at Shout! is a David E Kelley fan (Picket Fences announcement in 5, 4, 3, 2...)

Raimi also hasn't been involved in the DVD bonus features for any Evil Dead trilogy reissues over the last five years or so (e.g. the feature-length doc from the recent ED2 BD). Odds are he's just busy with his big-budget producing/directing commitments nowadays and isn't as interested in looking back.
