I took a chance and ordered it. It arrived yesterday and I watched the first part last night. It looks very nice. The image is clean, as expected due to the restoration. The colors are balanced, but not flashy.

I've just finished watching this Arte's Blu-ray release of Les Parapluies de Cherbourg. The restoration looks great. The colors look rich but never flashy, very suitable for this very sad story.

Silly question, I suppose, but can anyone confirm that Pathé's new blu-ray edition of Bernard's LES MISERABLES is in 1080p?

According to fnac.fr, the disc has English subtitles. Preordered mine and will let you know what the resto looks like. Probably will be 2 weeks or so before I get my copy.

Received my Miserables BD today! Positively shocked it arrived so quickly but then I also paid in excess of 30 Euros for it, shipping included (I may have selected fast shipping, my French is rusty). The film is split across two BDs, Part 1 & 2 on the first and Part 3 on the third. Not had a chance yet to watch the film itself.

did someone try to order the new Japanese Blu-Ray Godard movies ?

there's "2 or 3 Things I Know About Her" (perhaps a Blu-Ray Criterion upgrade pretty soon ? [-o< really, Marina Vlady blue eyes deserve a bluray treatment), "Masculin Féminin" (Criterion blu-ray upgrade ? [-o< ) and Alphaville, "Une Femme est Infâme" among others...

I've searched everywhere for some test/and or/screenshot and found nothing...... so far...

Are these out yet? Yesasia lists Alphaville with a December 21st release date.

That's the one I'll try for. If I don't hear anything too negative about the disc.

some of them are already out...
I'm not sure of the editor of "2 or 3 Things I know About Her" is the same than "Alphaville" (if I zoom on the artwork there's StudioCanal on it)

The restored Equinox Flower on the Shochiku Blu-ray looks gloriously impressive. The clarity and colors in some of the scenes took my breath away.

How does it compare with the UK Blu-ray?

It looks healthier. The colors are richer and are stable. It looks very clean ... the way the Criterion Charulata looks. This Shochiku Blu-ray of Equinox Flower is disc of the year for me.

The color was splendid on the Shochiku DVD of Equinox Flower -- which made the poor colors of Criterion's version especially disappointing.

I had some time and went back to watch some of the scenes on the Shochiku DVD of Equinox Flower. The colors on that DVD look similar to the new Blu-ray (i.e., rich and stable). The differences are: the Blu-ray looks sharper, cleaner and (a little) brighter. The sound on the Blu-ray is also better. The Blu-ray looks almost like a newly made film.

For what it's worth mentioning, on the new Shochiku Blu-ray, they have corrected the "missing frame" (?) issue near the beginning of An Autumn Afternoon. The picture quality of that particular scene is not as good as the rest of the film, but at least it is no longer shaky or jumpy.

artfilmfan, is there any DNR or other over-digitalization problems with these color Ozu blus?

I don't know much about DNR or other over-digitalization problems, but to my untrained eyes, the answer is "no". These Blu-rays look clear and clean. I think the "clean" look is a by-product of the restoration.

Last night I watched the ITV blu of Glengarry Glen Ross. It's a beauty. It is stacked with extras which I haven't gotten to yet. I didn't want to wait any longer for a US release. Needless to say it's a good get.

This is news! Thanks!

And just to double check: the Shochiku blu of EF is superior to the DVD, but you also feel it is better than the UK blu?

Yes.

The thing that I noticed the most on the UK blu is the occasional color fluctuation. The Shochiku blu doesn't have any of that.

I can no longer watch any other version of EF after I've seen the Shochiku Blu-ray.

Muriel's Wedding was released in Australia this week on blu ray. It has been re-mastered and the special features are pretty much lifted from the two disc blu ray edition. I upgraded but didn't bother doing a comparison.

I friend of my who also upgraded did do a comparison and said the blu ray was a vast improvement on the DVD.

It appears to be region B locked (it states region B on the back of the box) but until officially confirmed who knows.

still no feedback about the Jean-Luc Godard Japanese blu-ray ?? (I've searched everywhere for some screenshots, reviews... nothing...)

there's "Alphaville", "2 ou 3 choses que je sais d'elle", "Masculin Féminin", "Une Femme est une Femme"...

I don't know if Criterion still has the right to upgrade on blu Alphaville, Masculin Féminin, et Une Femme est Infâme [-o<

A restoration of Alphaville is touring via Rialto. I'm hoping that Criterion will have rights to release the restored version.

I just ordered "Alphaville," "2 or 3 Things..." and "Une Femme est une Femme," so when they arrive, I'll let you know what they seem like.

They also have "Made in USA" on blu-ray, listed on amazon Japan.

I also noticed a Japanese boxset of Early Bertolucci, which includes "The Grim Reaper," "Before the Revolution," and--somewhat surprising--"Partner." Anyone have this set? I'd like to see "Partner" in 1080p.
