Anybody have a confirmed sighting in NYC of Leon Morin and Army of Shadows on Blu? I checked Kim's last night, and they were out of both.

PM'd lady wakasa who posted on the last page saying (s)he had seen some around, but no response yet. I haven't seen any of them, so I've been trying my luck online. Manage to get one of the Leon Morin's Newbury Comics had shipped from amazon. Just need Marienbad now.

FWIW, my order of Marienbad placed on March 29th (at the time it said ships in 9 to 11 days, or something close to it) is now listed as "Shipping Soon." It was just over $30 at the time. EDIT: BarnesandNoble order has shipped.

Does the "backorder" on the Marienbad replacement case page on the website mean that it is gone for good. I see Chungking and Man Who Fell To Earth are still in stock. Any educated guesses on this based on what might have happened when those titles got announced as OOP? I just ordered two of them (the Marienbad cases), and the estimated delivery date was at the end of April.

It probably just means that Criterion is having more cover inserts for Marienbad printed because a bunch of people just bought this Blu-ray and wanted replacement cases. I think the fact that it says "backorder" (instead of simply having been removed from sale) is encouraging.

The choice is yours obviously, but the Marienbad digipack is actually really nice and adds to the design. It's embossed to look like the Beatles white album.

As I recall, Marienbad wasn't a default digipack like the first released titles, but a later design that was entirely predicated on the material (embossing etc.), so it's apples and oranges.

It was still an O-sleeve digipak like Criterion's first BD releases, but it's the only O-sleeve that I've kept that way on my shelf. I was sort of hoping that when the current pressing ran out, Criterion might silently update the BD packaging to be more like a miniaturized version of the DVD packaging, but I guess that dream will have to remain...in Marienbad.

my order of Leon Morin and Mafioso is backordered and I placed it the day of the announcement. Same goes for my Amazon order of Le Cercle Rouge blu from Amazon. The charge on my CC from DeepDiscount has dropped off too...I suppose that was an initial authorization, but i'm not holding my breath. But it's a sure sign they don't have them on hand because they have been known to charge me days before actually shipping it. The charge dropping off was the last thing I wanted to see.

I still have the digipack but bought the $5 case/insert as I prefer those for the blu rays - especially for Marienbad as it was damned near impossible to get out of the slip cover. This OOP frenzy has me wondering if it's actually worth something to anyone? I've assumed not since it was never made available for sale in the amaray type case....but I suppose if you bought it second hand in the plastic and wanted the digi it might be. I just haven't known what to do with it, and whenever i've considered throwing it away I started twitching and had to just put it back. :-"

Didn't Criterion redo the Marienbad slipcover because it was too small?

That's too bad. Looks like I won't get that Leon Morin blu. Don't lose hope for Le Cercle Rouge, though. I too had ordered one through Amazon a week ago and it just shipped yesterday, out of the blue. Still waiting to see if my Marienbad order goes (Amazon as well).

For what it's worth, my copy of Leon Morin, Priest shipped from Amazon on Sunday night. There is still hope.

Man, I have to say, the Bluray of Leon Morin and the dvds of Mafioso and Le Doulos seem to be the tricky ones to get both online and brick and mortar stores. Of the three B&N stores I went to, only one had the dvds and one other had Leon Morin on blu. Every store had Marienbad, Army of Shadows, and Le Cercle Rouge on both blu and dvd. The amazon prices seem to reflect the scarcity of Leon blu and the Mafioso and Le Doulos dvds. Just curious if anyone else noticed it at their local stores.

And my Amazon copies of Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge (ordered together the day of the announcement) just shipped this morning. I'd almost given up hope, but there you are.

Was at a used shop and found Army Of Shadows and Playtime BDs, ended up not getting them. But looking at Amazon prices, I might have to go back...

My copy of Leon Morin on blu arrived from Amazon a few days ago, but I'm still waiting on the one I really want: Le Cercle Rouge.

Found a Le Cercle Rouge blu and Army of Shadows blu at two different B&Ns today. All the other titles were out of stock and not orderable. AoS was at the store nearby where they know me by name and the guy working told me the manager bought every OOP title except AoS and Marienbad the day of the announcement....dick. He assumed the only reason he didn't also pick up Army of Shadows is that he didn't realize it was on the list. The guy working is really cool and didn't know it had gone OOP either, but when I told him he said he at least had the DVD. He wanted Le Doulos and Le Cercle Rouge on blu though, but his boss had already snagged them. They are generally very cool there and indulge me and my coupons without question whenever i'm in.

However, I had no idea the manager was a Fat Wallet/blu-ray.com guy! I'm sure there will be copies of all of them on ebay being sold out of Kansas City soon enough.

Oh, and still nothing from Amazon. I'm going to leave the order open since the price is so good and i'm just plain curious at this point.

Finally received my Cercle Rouge BD order from Amazon today.

Tonight I found the BD versions of both Leon Morin and Army of Shadows at my local B&N and snatched them both up.

I own hundreds of DVDs and BDs and I think tonight may have been the first time I ever paid MSRP. That makes me feel more than a little queasy, but I guess it's B&N's sweet revenge on me for the many, many times I used coupons to get ridiculously low prices during their half-off sales.

I despised the digipacks when Criterion started releasing BDs, but I can't bring myself to throw away the five I "upgraded" to keep cases... it just seems wrong somehow. Maybe I'll include a clause in my will stating that those five titles, if sold, must include both cases.

Marienbad (ordered Mar. 29) finally arrived from Amazon. Edges bent and the cover has large brown specks on it. I haven't taken the shrink wrap off yet. Odd that the case would have left with any sort of stain on it. Might it be a re-shrinkwrapped used copy? Would Amazon do that? The shrink wrap doesn't have any stickers of any kind on it.

Haven't opened it yet, as my backup B&N order just shipped so I'll have two and keep the one that looks better.

FWIW, it's not much but it's better than a kick in the ass. There's a $5 off $50 purchase coupon for B&N members on top of the 10% discount you get in store. They are supposed to be for new members (and if you buy a membership you can use them on line), but they work in store as long as you're a member at all. knocks the price of 2 blus to $70ish at least with the discount.
