Can anyone tell me, how many minutes has the remastered dvd Faraon. On pages 175 minutes DVD sets. Someone bought it and can confirm the length of the movie.

It's the Polart edition, and it's horrendous. Avoid.

Just to give you some idea of how hideous it is, I even tried extracting the .vob files to see if I could remove some of the interlacing and ghosting so I could admire the sub-VHS picture underneath. But I'm not sure I was able to do much with them.

Given the current Polish mania for HD restorations, I'm sure they'll get round to this at some point - it's arguably the most important Polish feature made between the end of WWII and Wajda's A Generation, so it's a pretty obvious candidate. Not least because it so badly needs a decent restoration!

Let's hope Ostatni etap will be restored and gets a decent release soon. It's been a few years when I saw the film, would like to revisit it again.

I watched Faraon from this set last night - it is only 2 hrs and 25 minutes or 145 min, not 175 as stated on box.

The Filmoteka's stuff is normally very English-friendly. They're lovely people: I've had quite a few dealings with them over the years.

Filmoteka Narodowa has restored another silent, Edward Puchalski's melodrama Rok 1863 (1922).

Filmoteka emailed me that they are planning a DVD release of this. No date yet.

How did people go about getting the Chopin set couriered? I'm looking at quotes for £50 to the UK.

Regarding the Chopin set; at first Filmoteka Narodowa suggested a courier but I emailed them back that only corporate clients can create accounts at courier firms like FedEx, UPS and DHL. Then just suddenly they sent it via normal post (which arrived in like two days) and I hadn't even paid for the postage yet.

Also with the shipment got a 103-page book called Kino okresu Wielkiego Niemowy (in Polish only) featuring information about Polish silent cinema accompanied with photographs.

These were free of charge, only paid the shipping costs of 15,00€.

This box looks great, as that'll fill my gap in the Second Run's first Polish boxset and grab me some other films in the process. Unfortunately, the two Empiks in Rzeszow seem to stock little classic Polish cinema. I want this box, the Ford one and the Austeria Blu-ray, but I'm not having much luck so far.

Got this today. The three films and the 54-minute documentary have optional English subtitles.

Re-release trailers and the before and after restoration demos are not subtitled, also included is a 41-page booklet which is in Polish only,

I hope they keep it up - I've been a bit slack about checking prior to ordering because of their 100% track record so far.

Very excited what Wajda films might be in question. I understand Wesele / The Wedding (1972) has been restored recently.

So has The Young Ladies of Wilko (unveiled last year), and I believe Man of Marble is getting restored right now.
