They have a huge audience these days, and they've mentioned (or someone here did?) that internet rumors spreading too fast are what once hurt a possible arrangement they had with David Lynch. It makes sense that they keep more of a lid on things now.

I like how the drawings are a sort of cinematic Rorschach test.

Does anyone know the story behind this? I've heard mention of it, but I was curious as to the actual details of what happened.

Tuesday predictions:

Medium Cool
Shoah
I Married a Witch
Three Cases of Murder
Naked Lunch BD
The Passion of Joan of Arc BD

Edit: I forgot to throw an Eclipse set in there. I'll go with Gosha in the 70s.

Hoping for 'Repo Man' with another quick hint-to-announcement turnaround.

Gosha in the 70's? Has there been any hints that this is coming out? I've been waiting what seems like a lifetime for criterion to release Bandits Vs Samurai Squadron.

Double post.

Would also love to see Criterion pick up Tenchu. Easily one of the best Japanese films ever made.

Nope. Other than Hulu, which if I remember contains both 70 & 80s output, it was a purely random guess.

Every months I see someone guessing the Troell double feature will be announced. Is there any reason to think Criterion is actually going to release this? I thought WB had the US rights...

I seem to remember there being a poster for The Emigrants up on the wall of the Criterion offices (or some other declaration of their love for it) so, with it not having had a subtitled DVD release, it's assumed it would be a part of any WB deal.

Back when they were a bit more forthcoming, they said specifically on facebook quite a while back that "more Troell is in the works!" after Everlasting Moments was released. It may not be Emigrants/New Land...but since it's one of my most wanted things in the whole wide world, I pray that it is.

I actually emailed Mulvaney Friday about it since I haven't in quite some time...i'll let you know what he says.

My take:

Foreign Correspondent (DVD & BD)

Jour de fête/Parade (DVD & BD)
M. Hulot's Holiday (DVD & BD upgrade)
Mon Oncle (DVD & BD upgrade)
Y tu mamá también (DVD & BD)

Aww man. I was really excited that there might have been a hint that this was coming. You really can't imagine how much I want Criterion to release these films.

Sorry. When I guess Eclipse sets, I generally just look to see what on Hulu can be categorized into groups of three or more. So far this strategy hasn't payed off aside from being one month early on the Sabu set.

for what it's all worth, Ryan just posted trailers from Lord of the Flies and Band of Outsiders. I know he says take everything he says lightly, but knowing these two titles were probably on the way as upgrades...makes a ton of sense.

therefore my guesses for tomorrow:

Medium Cool
Shoah + other movies made from Shoah boxset
Repo Man
Bitter Rice
Wild Strawberries
Band of Outsiders
Lord of the Flies redux

Any chance of The Ruling Class (1972) on Blu someday?

About as much of a chance as Schizopolis or Walker getting upgraded. Not terribly unlikely, but probably not soon.

Huh. Could've sworn 'Band..' was a Studiocanal/Lionsgate?
