There is reason to think there's another batch of Fox titles coming with Barton Fink, King of Comedy, Working Girl, Phantom of the Paradise, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls being highly likely for a variety of reasons.

I have been hoping that was the reason Russ Meyer has a phantom page on the site.

No, that page is reserved for Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!. Of the titles being bandied about though, only Phantom Of Paradise makes me cringe. I regretted picking up the Region 2 blu-ray to pad an order for a "spend over E100 on blu rays & get E50 off" sale on Amazon.fr about 10 minutes into the movie.

I asked Mulvaney not too long ago about Life Is Sweet and High Hopes because the Reg. 2 blu-rays were really cheap on Amazon.co.uk & they'd be a likely twofer, but got no response.

FWIW, that Region 2 Blu-Ray is garbage. Allegedly an upscale of an SD master, it's no improvement over the DVD.

...and thanks to diligent reviewers, that is what has kept me from buying them. I really hope this does happen, although I think I'd prefer to see blu rays of Secrets & Lies and Happy-Go-Lucky (my 2 Leigh favorites) first.

Well, the Fox Secrets and Lies disc has been OOP for a while, so that seems possible. Happy Go Lucky is Miramax, I think, so either Echo Bridge or Lionsgate for that one

3:10 to Yuma would certainly be the 1957 original and not the recent remake.

Whichever version it's for, both were just released in 2008 (the 1957 in a "Special Edition" dvd) & both look to be in print & readily available.

So noone else is hoping that man scaling building = Elevator To The Gallows upgrade?

There is no BLU for the original and the special edition just included a sneak peek at the remake.

Could each of the ten drawings contain two clues?

Any significance to the grate in the bottom left corner? it stands out as different from the other ornamentation on the first story. I guess the little dot on the bottom of the right door is a keyhole?

That "grate" looks like a Charles Addams-basement-flat sort of touch although it may just be an embellishment.

Re: the front doors of the appartment building New Years drawing. It also struck me curious that there was a spot on one of the doors. Or is it a "hole-and-corner." Hole and corner in UK parlance can be translated approximately to "secret" or opposite of above-aboard.
Could this actually be a clue if we follow hole-and-corner to translate to "secret" coupled with the "secret" appearing on the door, which we could interpret to mean "secret door," giving us the title of another Fritz Lang film, Secret Beyond the Door... oh wait, Olive Films just released that! #-o (that line of thinking was terrific though, for a moment)

There is nothing else I can come up with to explain the front door having a single hole on it, unless it was not a clue to begin with, which is always a possibility. Any keyhole explanations out there?

That dot on the bottom of the door has been bugging me as well. It can't be accidental, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I actually got a few of these on my own for a change too.

If Scanners is coming, the Brood HAS to be as well, no? The latter is my favorite DC film for mostly nostalgic reasons....i've wanted a decent edition of it forever.

Not at all. As much as the bigger labels have done some decent work with some titles from thr majors, the last thing we need is them releasing more of it and pushing leas well known stuff even further to the side.

The majors own a lot of less known stuff though. There are a number of Warner controlled obscurities worth having in the collection.

I thought the same thing at first, but besides having the wrong door handles for that, the mystery dot/spot isn't an exact keyhole shape, it's just a circle; which rules out Guy Maddin's film "Keyhole" (I hope). The spot might have to be a peephole (don't get excited for a Peeping Tom return however), gun-shot hole, bugging device (the appartment building reminded me vaguely of "Klute"); or possiblly something ala "redrum" in The Shining (also like Gandalf marking Bilbo's door). One possibility, the "out, out damn spot" line from Macbeth. Other possiblity: it might be a clue for Philo Vance's "The Kennel Club Murder Case," where locking a door without a key was a plot device. But if we start to think about films with significant moments involving keyholes we'll be at this until the 2015 New Years Day wacky drawing.

Maybe the placement is itself symbolic and not literally from a film, the phrase "in a corner" or "in a low place," "low spot," or even "low key" could be part of the clue. Come to that, what is the correct pronounciation for "locataire" anyway?

Not at all. As much as the bigger labels have done some decent work with some titles from thr majors, the last thing we need is them releasing more of it and pushing leas well known stuff even further to the side.

From what has been guessed so far, I'm pretty disappointed in general with this tease. All the notable ones are either previously unofficialy confirmed (like Eraserhead), or already available on blu elsewhere, or upgrades of existing titles or Hulu titles. None of the rumored Wenders, or Von Trier, or Tati. Are there any major surprises?

Well, Safety Last! was something that was speculated about, but I don't think there was any real confirmation before this- and surely that's a pretty huge deal, particularly since there's no reason to believe the rest of the Lloyd material wasn't part of the package.

Eraserhead scaling the building could be Criterion's announcement that Godzilla will not be the only giant monster in the collection as they will add King Kong in 2013. Also, the person with folded arms on the third floor is behind a window with seven holes in it. The person also appears to be "brooding", so Cronenberg hinted twice?

The Heartbreak Kid would be one of the most important Criterion releases ever

This seems awfully hyperbolic, I like Charles Grodin as much as the next guy, but would there be some particular significance to releasing this? I remember it as a lesser Albert Brooks movie.

The Heartbreak Kid had no Albert Brooks. Charles Brodin and Albert Brooks together in a film? "Real Life." The best way to appreciate that film would be releasing it paired with all of the actual Lourd family television episodes that directly inspired "Real Life." Could be a worthwhile release, not an important release, but an entertaining one.

I was trying to say that it felt to me more like a lesser Albert Brooks (who I like) directed movie and not one of the most important releases Criterion could ever muster. I'm not criticizing the film on it's own terms, but questioning its epic significance.
