I thought the same thing, but it turns out it's an omnibus film, with different directors doing the various comedy segments.HistoryProf wrote:i saw this today and have to ask - this is a real movie, right? Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
Not the most exciting trailer. Definitely could use some dialogue to give it momentum but I'm interested. First Hal Hartley now Paul Schrader, soon Kickstarter won't even have room for amateurs, everyone will just be funding excellent pros who cant get anything made in todays landscape.

Iron Man 3. This looks like it has potential but if nothing else, I hope this rejuvenates Black's directing career.

It'll be interesting to see, as this series continues to expand, how many titles they can come up with that can also double as taglines. They're 2 for their last 2.

Antiviral (Brandon Cronenberg, 2012)
Official Trailer for Antiviral.
Brandon Cronenberg just won the Gold Hugo for Antiviral. IFC Midnight now holds all U.S. distribution rights. It sounds like the new flesh is still alive and well.

A full trailer for Johnnie To's Drug War is up on Twitch. I think it looks actually terrifying. A friend once described an audience at an art theater (coming to see Cold Comfort Farm, I think?) screaming in fright or outrage seeing a trailer for Cyclo, and this trailer looks like that to me. And Louis Koo actually looks completely put together here, like he's going to turn in a complete, coherent performance. I'm officially excited for this one.

Sushi Girl (Kern Saxton, 2012)
Has anyone seen the trailer for this? Looks interesting.
Plot from imdb:
Plot from imdb:
"Fish has spent six years in jail. Six years alone. Six years keeping his mouth shut about the robbery, about the other men involved. The night he is released, the four men he protected with silence celebrate his freedom with a congratulatory dinner. The meal is a lavish array of sushi, served off the naked body of a beautiful young woman. The sushi girl seems catatonic, trained to ignore everything in the room, even if things become dangerous. Sure enough, the four unwieldy thieves can't help but open old wounds in an attempt to find their missing loot."

Welcome to the Punch. Script ranked high on the UK version of the Black List. (Folks at The Playlist blog also seemed to really like it). Trailer is alright. Very action heavy...considering all the praise for the script you would expect a few more plot details or at least something to show that it's more than just your standard low budget action flick.

$8.5 million, reportedly. That's pretty low.

Yeah, budget is less than $10 million. Suppose to be the British equivalent of a Michael Mann film. The trailer looks gorgeous but it plays like a sizzle reel of explosions and gunfights. Wouldn't be surprised if it bows at Berlin. I'm interested because of the high praise for the script and the strong reviews for the director's first feature Shifty.

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
Well, that trailer does a fantastic job of convincing you it's anything but low-budget. It looks gorgeous, but it didn't intrigue me nearly as much as the Sushi Girl one. Maybe that trailer was just window dressing for the action crowd it's trying to appeal to, and maybe another more meatier one will come along soon.

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
The trailer for Michael Bay's latest, Pain & Gain, shows much improvement in the director's style. For example,
-There is only one explosion in the trailer.
- I noticed several shots where the camera stays still.
- You can actually tell what's going on.
- There certainly can be comedy derived from the story of two musclehead doofuses who try to orchestrate a kidnapping and extortion, and not the "black people are hilarious!" comedy Bay so loves.
- Ed Harris is back, after doing such good work as a villain that could have ended up being a bland cliche in Bay's The Rock.
- It didn't hurt me when I watched it.

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
He's been talking about this for years, so I can imagine that it took time to refine the script where I can imagine the Transformer films or his stuff with Bruckheimer is just spat out quickly in comparison. Visually, it reminds me a little of some of Tony Scott's wilder experiments on Man On Fire and Domino. It'll be interesting to see what course his career will take if this is a hit, if maybe he does more character-centered action stuff.
