Hrm. I did a quick search around and it appears the one to get -- the German S.E. DVD is getting scarce. I'd recommend trolling eBay. You never know.

Ok, get this. I finally saw Wild at Heart for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was already a HUGE Lynch fan. I love road movies and was thinking about how much I would love to do a marathon of stuff like Heart, Natural Born Killers (one of my favorite movies of all time), etc. Then a friend asked off hand if I had seen anything from Alex De Inglesia just about a week ago, and immediately after that I read a vintage Fangoria article that happened to have a fascinating article on Mutant Action. Ok, get this. I finally saw Wild at Heart for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was already a HUGE Lynch fan. I love road movies and was thinking about how much I would love to do a marathon of stuff like Heart, Natural Born Killers (one of my favorite movies of all time), etc. Then a friend asked off hand if I had seen anything from Alex De Inglesia just about a week ago, and immediately after that I read a vintage Fangoria article that happened to have a fascinating article on Mutant Action. Fletch... you are my new best friend. I MUST FIND THE EUROPEAN CUT!!!!
Several month ago Fletch, myself and some other members were discussing Alex de La Iglesia, which is one of my favorite filmakers. I read in an interview long time ago that De la Iglesia was in fact a fan of Jodorowsky's work and Perdita Durango seems a perfect example of how he was influenced by him.

Well, in fact, Stone acknowledged that Jodorowsky had an influence on his work and I believe he said it had a specific impact on either The Doors or Natural Born Killers. I'll have to hunt that article down again.

Heh. Yeah, I've been wanting to find a Region 1/NTSC version of the European Cut of Perdita Durgano but have been having a helluva timie tracking one down.
I also dig Natural Born Killers (and much of Stone's output). I would also add to your road movie fest - Hard Core Logo (fictious Canadian punk band on the road) and maybe Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise.
Back to Jod... I'd love to read that Stone interview where he cites the man as an influence. I can certainly see it in something like NBK or even U-Turn.

It might have been U-Turn, yeah. I was taking an Oliver Stone class that led up to the release of Alexander, so there were a lot of interviews at the time. I'm pretty sure one of those is the one we're looking for, because my teacher (Crimes of Passion's Barry Sandler) knows about my fascination with Jodorowsky and pointed it out to me.

Oh, I intially missed this comment. It can't be complete unless Warner is willing to lease The Rainbow Thief to Criterion. I was figuring with a new project with Peter O'Toole & Omar Sharif coming out, maybe they would be motivated enough to release it in one of their monthly slate of catalogue titles.
On the other side of the argument, you could say such a set (with Fando Y Lis) would be about as complete as a Lynch boxset without Dune.

If you were trying to present a more complete representation of Jodorowsky, you have to include that film. It's one of his most personal works, as he is very concerned and enamored with the contemporary world of elephants. He's discussed this to great length, even in recent interviews. As for Rainbow Thief, I believe he pretty much distanced himself from it.

We've been through this already. He gave the same response not long ago. The only difference is that he is no longer saying that they don't have the rights.
If they are going to release these titles and the rumors are true, we're not going to see anything until early next year at, well, the earliest. As such, they're not going to start talking about these titles until late this year, if at all.
That's a lot of if's, but it's all we've got. Patience is our only choice for now, unless somebody else from a Jodorowsky-related camp spills the beans or otherwise contradicts these rumors.
So... I went on a job interview last week. The job was for restoring a "70s cult movie" as the ad said. It turns out that the movie in question was El Topo.
I didn't get the job but at least I came away from the whole thing with some bit of useful information. The job would have entailed scanning all sorts of pics, drawings, etc., for the eventual Criterion edition of the movie; the film itself is already restored. Their target for finishing all of this is early November. So, it looks like sometime in 2006, El Topo Criterion will be hitting the shelves.
They may be working on The Holy Mountain as well but I'm not 100% on that.
Between this, the Humanoids rumor, Abco's announcement and everything inbetween, I'm now convinced that Criterion (and ultimately Eclipse) is going to be releasing El Topo, Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre and Tusk. My only question at this point is, what about Fando Y Lis?

I'm guessing March, maybe. April at the most. Whichever month, this is going to be a mother of a release! A dual commentary with Jodorowsky and Klein would have been amazing! Just imagine hearing them bickering the whole length of the feature!
This has got to be a boxset with the other essential Jodorowskys (Holy Mountain, Fando and Lis and Santa Sangre) with maybe a 5th disc dedicated to extras. If that happens, I wouldn't mind if they re-used the japanese art for the boxset:

There was confirmation on The Severed Head back in March through the Jodorowsky forum list, it's just at the time nobody could confirm *who* would be releasing them. I posted the details on some of the special features on page 1 of this thread. I could try and email the forum moderator for more updates, though I've had problems responding to the list directly for some reason.
Gee whiz, I was thinking about El Topo in the shower today (I often have good insights in there!) and I had been reading about Jodorowsky's aborted 1975 Dune project and it struck me that there had been no news for months about who was to release El Topo and Holy Mountain and I was thiking about the transfering and authoring, etc and voila - here we are! Weird. DVD Synchronicities have been happening quite frequently to me recently. The day that Spirit of the Beehive was rumoured, my copy of Cria Cuervos (also starring Ana Torent) arrived.
Holy Mountain is surely also in the pipeline as I can't see these two films being licensed to seperate companies. These are likely to be Eclipse releases, for sure; it would a great way to start the collection.
A little bit of forum cross-pollination: Marc Morris (of Mondo Erotico fame) over at the Anchor Bay UK forum confirms that Holy Mountain is also coming from CC:
