Well personally I took the opportunity to replace all my blu only titles for Duals as I like having the DVD for lending to people or playing in the computer. I am just banking that I can at least recupe most of the outlay and mopped up 6 titles that I didn't have at all. I now have to haggle about replacing three titles from my order as I included Medea and now want the Pas trilogy.

I have started a Wiki page listing the BFI Catalogue numbers and titles as I could not find a list anywhere and I thought it would be useful to see what has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray. If anyone has any VHS titles then feel free to add these too

This list is based on what I own plus a couple of other releases where I have managed to locate the catalogue number. As you can see the list is nowhere complete, so if anyone has other titles not listed, would you mind please updating this. This includes DVD/Blu-Ray only releases of titles, which have been re-released as dual formats, and some of the older titles that I don't have. Some titles will inevitably appear more than once as there are some that have been re-released more than once. If listing a blu-ray title could you also please specify if it is dual format or not

I think this list will also help people who are collecting, see what they are missing. The link is below:

I have a modified Oppo BDP-93. No problem with Region B MOCs or Region B Optimums. But I just discovered that I am getting the Region reject message when I attempt to play Region B BFI Blu-rays. Equinox Flower, The Innocents, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. I know the machine is set correctly because immediately after getting a reject on a BFI Blu-ray, I slipped the MOC Ballad of Narayama in and it played with no problem. I don't recall seeing anything about a particular problem with BFI Blu-rays. Has anyone heard of or had this problem? In particular, does anyone have a modified BDP - 93 and has had no problem with BFI discs? (I.e., perhaps my machine is defective in some way.)

Appreciate any feedback on this. I have a bunch of BFI Region B discs sitting on the shelves!

Many thanks - the odd thing is I remember looking at the posts you linked to, but at the time a multi-region Blu-ray was far from my mind so they didn't stick. I shall now proceed to rub my stomach and pat my head and proceed with the multi-various rituals cited.

Yes, I'd heard that The Farmer's Wife had turned out to be the easiest restoration of the lot - though it's far less of a commercial draw than the other three, which is presumably why it's being held back until more are ready.

It's going to be thrilling to see the end results, especially if you've only seen public domain DVDs up to now.

I wouldn't hold your breath: the BFI doesn't have the rights, so it's up to ITV or Studio Canal (depending on the title).

The BFI never owned Elgar and Song of Summer - they merely sublicensed them from the BBC for a limited period. Unfortunately, the BBC then massively increased its rates for such deals, with the result that the DVDs had to go out of print when the rights expired, and they haven't been renewed.

This is why you'll rarely see any BBC material released on DVD/Blu-ray labels outside its own label 2Entertain - and why the ball is very much in their court. The BBC included both films alongside four others in the Ken Russell at the BBC box set, which for some reason has only been released in the US - but that was definitely still in print as of a month ago, as my wife bought me a brand new copy for Christmas.

I agree with you: both films would look stunning on Blu-ray. I know that the original 35mm negative of Elgar still survives, and I believe film materials for Song of Summer are in pretty good shape too.

The BFI are distributing L'Atalante in select cinemas over the next few weeks. Ordet follows from March 9th. I'm not sure if Ordet is from a new restoration though, if it is I'm hoping that it might get a Blu-Ray release to go along with it.

According to Blu-ray.com Les Enfants Du Paradis is coming on Blu from the BFI on 7 May (I did a cursory search - couldn't find this news posted anywhere else on this board).
