Knives: I can think of a few animations which feature a mix of puppet and 2D animation. Jiri Barta's recent children's film, In the Attic, is primarily stop-motion animation but it has 2D accents and effects, and there's a sequence where the puppets become animated figures. The NFB's Night Angel is a collaboration between the puppet animator Bretislav Pojar and the pinscreen animator Jacques Drouin, which is a remarkably compelling depiction of blindness, with the pinscreen used as effects to depict the puppet's inner world.

I can't think of any animations featuring puppets in a 2D environment, but if any occur to me I'll let you know.

A couple of films that have been racking around my brain for years. I'll try to describe the brief moments I can remember from them.

1. Dark comedy. Boy grows a third arm out of his back. His mom is sick? or dying? maybe crazy? and is always yelling at him. I think he has dreams to be a comedian. One scene involves him watching his friend have a threesome with two largely obese women.

2. Only remember seeing the trailer once on tv probably a decade ago, if not longer. From what I recall, the plot revolves around a struggling sculptor. He accidentally(?) kills someone and decides to hide the body by covering it in plaster and presenting it as his most recent statue. He gains a large amount of praise for how realistic the statue's face appears, so he decides to kill more people in order to create more statues.

3. The scene is from a trailer. A man gets thrown in a prison cell. Looks to be the 1800's. An older man appears from the shadows in the back of the cell. He talks about his plan to get revenge on the man who stole his thumbs. At which point you might guess he raises his hands to show he has no thumbs. For awhile I thought this was a scene from Count of Monte Cristo, but alas it is not.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

2. A Bucket of Blood? I've only seen the Corman original, but there was also a 1995 TV remake.

Gregory: Yes! Oh my god Yes! after 17 years of questioning what movie it is you figured it out in 5 minutes. What an odd mixture of individuals. Directed by MadTV's Michael McDonald. David Cross in a supporting role. Will Ferrell's debut film. Unfortunately it never made it to dvd, so I still won't get to see it.

edit: knives yes! that looks just like it too. And this one did make it to dvd! Great. I'll be picking that up. Thank you.

I admit that this is really vague as there's probably dozens of films like this but: A color film, in english(?),from the late sixties or early seventies.Teenage boy starts a relationship with a (stunning!)middle aged brunette. The woman might have been related to him in some way(an aunt?).

The first thing that came to mind was Malle's "Murmur of the Heart", but the protagonist doesn't exactly "start a relationship" with her...

The obvious ones are SUMMER OF '42 (1971), Bertolucci's LUNA (1979) or, possibly, CLASS (1983) - all involve teenagers and middle-aged women. As you say, there are probably plenty of other ones!

I'm almost certain that film's in english. Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor plays at some point if I'm not mistaken, but that's in 1000 other movies as well.

Hi, I have several photos from a G.W. Pabst film which is either from DON'T PLAY WITH LOVE or FORBIDDEN LOVE. There are quite a few, so here is a link to see them. I appreciate any advise to figure out which film these are from, Thank You!

Um...I'm going to be working with very little specific details here, but my mother was asking me if I can find any information about the following: a black and white (presumably from America) series of live action sequences featuring an animator at a table drawing cartoons which spring to life and then interact with each other. And apparently its silent. Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'm completely in the dark. She said its from the 50s or 60s or so she thinks.

The Out of the Inkwell series? Much earlier than the 50s and 60s, but heavily televised during that period.

EDIT: Apparently there was a spin-off TV series in the 60s too.

There are about 10 Inkwell shorts (nice quality, though no music) as extras on Popeye the Sailor Vol.1.

Looks like there was also a DVD released sometime in 2003 which appears to be completely unavailable anywheres.

It's DON'T PLAY WITH LOVE.

If anyone around here might help you with more info on this title, it would almost certainly be Lubitsch, who is a true Pabst devotee, and is as deeply informed on the era as anyone.
