Re: Mondo Vision
Can anyone confirm the release date of Possession? And perhaps an update concerning On The Silver Globe?

Re: Mondo Vision
There's no date for Possession yet, since it (partially) relies on the glitch in the master being corrected. There is some other potential good news for it too - hopefully in the new year Mondo Vision can make an actual announcement.
Silver Globe will be after Possession - again though, good news. The delay means that the bonus features will be more comprehensive than originally planned.

I don't get though why you can't purchase their titles directly from any major online retail site (like amazon), only being able to purchase from places like the amazon market place seems weird to me.

I'm the tech guy, so don't really have much understanding of how the market works, but from what I gather, distribution isn't cheap. Having Amazon handle it likely means that Mondo Vision can spend more on the product itself... and it's not like Amazon is a bad or unknown place to buy from. Their customer service seems to be pretty good.

Except the problem is that Amazon doesn't have any copies for sale either. It's just third party sellers. I've been wanting to buy a copy of Szamanka for months, but would rather not buy it from them.David M. wrote:I'm the tech guy, so don't really have much understanding of how the market works, but from what I gather, distribution isn't cheap. Okay I just reduced two paragraphs of praise (probably duplicating what I wrote a few months ago in this thread), but highly recommend rare-collector-dvds amazon reseller, they pack it well and their current price is only a dollar more than what I paid last January for the regular edition. (Cannot say the same wrt amazon, they don't usually bother to pack things very well, plus they were charging a bit more.)NilbogSavant wrote:Except the problem is that Amazon doesn't have any copies for sale either. Re: Mondo Vision
I can thoroughly endorse Rare Collector DVDs - I've bought all the Mondo Vision releases through them, and packaging, delivery speed and overall service were second to none.
And since the order was handled via Amazon, it's exactly like ordering from them anyway.

yes, I ordered them from the same seller, very much recommended, i bought all 4 at once and they even refunded a part of my shipping costs.

Re: Mondo Vision
Absolutely incredible Andrzej Zulawski news just recently announced. The first ever US Zulawski career retrospective will take place in March of this year at BAM in Brooklyn! Further, Zulawski is scheduled to appear during the retrospective. BAM happens to be my local cinema and is a place I frequent. Beyond the incredible programming, the programmers go to great lengths to secure the absolute best 35mm prints in existence. BAM has already confirmed that there will be brand new prints of Third Part of The Night, The Devil and Possession during this series. I can't even believe that it will be possible to finally see his entire body of work in a theater. This is major film news as Zulawski has easily been one of the most (if not the most) criminally underrated master directors.
Strangely enough, following the Film Forum run of Possession, I wrote about the film and the need for a career retrospective of Zulawski's amazing work.

More information has been released about the upcoming Andrzej Zulawski retrospective at BAM. It will take place from March 7th until March 20th. All 12 Zulawski feature films will be played. 11 of those 12 features will be screened in 35mm! Zulawski short films will be featured as well:

Hey David, any chance of seeing Pavoncello and The Story of Triumphant Love pop up as extras on some future Mondo Vision release?

I'd like to think so. Especially given that new prints were made, finally in colour.

Re: Mondo Vision
That depends. They were shot in colour, obviously, but their original TV broadcasts in Poland would be in black and white.
At the CPH PIX festival in Copenhagen, Zulawski inferred that the colour version was his choice. He was happy about the new print, put it that way.

I suspect if he'd wanted them to remain in black and white, they'd have stayed that way.

Re: Mondo Vision
A few things...
Here is the complete schedule for the Andrzej Zulawski career retrospective at BAM.
BAM is no longer listing the Andrzej Zulawski Q & A for the screening of The Third Part of the Night. David, any idea if Zulawski's appearance during the series is cancelled altogether or is it being rescheduled for another date?
It is excellent news that Mondo Vision is supplying Zulawski approved English translations for a number of live projected subtitles during the series.
It seems like the perfect time for Mondo Vision to make an announcement of some kind about concrete future release plans for Possession, The Silver Globe and so on. I hope this news comes soon with much needed light now being further shed on Zulawski's phenomenal films.
Finally, what is the deal with with practically all Mondo Vision releases now going for extremely high online seller prices? I know that this has come up before though it has never reached this level. Are all titles actually out of print?

Re: Mondo Vision
It'd be cool if they made an announcement. I'll share whatever I can whenever I can.
As for the pricing: it's my understanding that they're out of print. These were risky titles to put out and accordingly were very small runs.

Re: Mondo Vision
Thank you for the response and for all of the vital work you have contributed to the Mondo Vision releases.
I'm sorry to hear that the Mondo Vision titles appear to be out of print while fully understand the risky nature of releasing the films with such a high level of care and concern. Every release is so beautifully realized on every level, the special editions and the limited editions. I have all Mondo Vision releases though I was hoping for the sake of others that these essential titles would still be available once more people gain exposure to Zulawski's singular work on the basis of the US career retrospective and the press that will inevitably appear in some form.
