Re: Olive Films
Bergman's "Face To Face" (DVD) showed up today in my Amazon Gold Box with a release date of August 30th. I'm hoping for a blu-ray release, but I'm not seeing a placeholder, yet.

Shame we don't seem to be getting the TV 200 minute version but got to be lucky to get this. Let's hope it's not the execrable dubbed version only!

Re: Olive Films
According to Olive's website FACE TO FACE will have optional subs and no English audio is mentioned:

Re: Olive Films
I'm actually fond of Despair, and I don't think it's the mess it's made out to be. Bogarde complained about the final edit, which he felt spoiled the film, and it's a pity there isn't an original, director's cut of the film. How's the transfer btw?knives wrote:Hell even Katzelmacher has some pretty interesting art designs going on with it's minimalism so I'm sure even bad Fassbinder looks exquisite. That said I am just really curious what the meeting of such three desperately different extreme personalities will make. Even if the movie is as bad as can be it will have to be an interesting sort of bad and worse comes to worse that's a lovely cover to show off to people.

Belated response, but the transfer is very good. In fact the quality is so clean that I'm suspicious of it. Also now that I've seen the movie I have to agree with you. The film should have been terrible, but I'm really enjoying it even if it's a tad fluffy. At the very least it's a great experience to have Fassbinder in English (for some reason I thought Bogarde would be dubbed). It lacks that punch that makes Berlin Alexanderplatz or Maria Braun great, but it is wonderfully Fassbinder's.

Two titles are announced for September 20 (so far - they are likely to announce more):

For some reason I was under the impression that Skidoo was academy. I guess I haven't actually seen the whole film then. I'll report back on quality when I get around to watching it, but the DVD is appropriately garish.

Re: Olive Films
On the strength of your response I've gone and ordered it. It's a film I've kept coming back to; I originally bought a second hand VHS copy in the mid 80s, so felt it was time for an upgrade! I think the combination of Bogarde & Fassbinder is fantastic, and overall the film is impressive, especially the Bogarde character. I've never understood the hate for it.knives wrote:Belated response, but the transfer is very good. In fact the quality is so clean that I'm suspicious of it. Re: Olive Films

Released on October 4th. I think it's Olive's first contemporary film on Blu-ray.

And they didn't even have to work for it! This was one of the great film posters of recent memory, and Anchor Bay UK used some hack photoshop job for their cover.domino harvey wrote:It's definitely their first good cover

Despair's cover is also good, but is also from a classic poster.

Re: Olive Films
Does the subscription end after the twelve months or does it automatically renew? In my account I have a pending order for another subscription but that's the last thing I want with the new price tag.

Hmm, I guess we at least have confirmation that it's not the long version finally. Too bad, but seeing any of the film would be nice. By the way Visions of Eight is available for pre-order now.

I tested Sands tonight and it's a pretty good transfer and a very fun movie with a great ending (only the '60s and '70s). The film is mostly sand, but the color comes in bright and really shows none of it's age.

Re: Olive Films
My subscription expired in July, so I was surprised to find a package from Olive in my mail today. It included:
Despair
I Only Want You to Love Me
When We Leave
Sins
Monte Carlo
Queenie
Skidoo
Hannie Caulder (Blu)
Crack in the World (Blu)
So I assume anyone else who had a subscription should also be receiving this shortly, if you haven't already.

Re: Olive Films
Now that Olive is releasing several titles on DVD and BluRay simultaneously, does anyone know what this means for subscriptions? Do subscribers get both a DVD and a Blu of a title, or only one or the other (and if so, which?). Has anyone recieved Sands of the Kalihari via subscription yet? The description of the offer on their site hasn't changed since Blu entered the picture for them, so it says specifically a DVD. But if they give you an BluRay version of everything too (or instead), as Titus' post seems to indicate, that subscription price of $25 is actually looking pretty nice with all those Gaumonts on the horizon.

Re: Olive Films
They're really getting better on the covers huh. I hope they didn't have to cut anything due to license reasons.
