More likely it's going to be remastered for an Archive re-release. The original Archive Man from Atlantis disc just went out of print only to be replaced by a 2-disc DVD-R set that includes the original film newly remastered along with the three sequels.

Arrow has just confirmed a number of OOP titles as a result of last week's Sony DADC fire.

The DVD-only editions of Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, A Bay of Blood, Deep Red and Battle Royale will not be reissued in their old form, but will be subsequently reissued as Arrowdrome releases (presumably dual-format).

Spirits of the Dead will be reissued in the Arrow Academy strand - but the booklet will be slimmed down so that it only contains the essays and not the original Edgar Allan Poe stories.

Damn, the UK release is inferior? I was thinking of picking that up in preference to the Region A, since it's so much cheaper.
unfortunately, that's true:
MPEG4 (with 2x bitrate) vs. VC1.
Dolby TrueHD vs. Dolby Digital 5.1

not streets ahead, but visible:

Hopefully the definitive 3 Disc Edition will materialize in the future:

The Star Wars films on dvd. Expect the editions that came with the original unaltered versions to skyrocket in price.

But it will be a dual DVD & BD release, so swings and roundabouts.

Both of Anchor Bay's Mario Bava box sets are on this weeks OOP list.

I thought they went long ago. Could I be thinking of the Herzog's?

I see on Amazon the Bava sets are only available from 3rd party sellers, so you are probably right. Sometimes the OOP thread at DVDtalk is a little late.

Anchor Bay's Herzog sets seem to still be in print. The Fox Lorber White Diamond/Wheel of Time set is OOP and people are selling it used for $66 & up on Amazon (or asking $66 & up for them, who knows if they are actually selling them.)

I wonder if AB still retain the rights and we will eventually see a BD box from them - or if anybody else will take over?

I believe I read somewhere that the Bava boxes did not sell well, so the question is whether anyone will be bothered?

I could probably live fine with remastered BDs of 'Black Sunday' and 'The Whip and the Body' (the latter not AB). But seeing how long it took for even half-decent transfers to come out on DVD, I am not holding my breath.

I've heard the same thing about the Bava sets not being big sellers. Which is a shame, because both sets were great deals and a great way to get into Bava's films.

Since they've given up on catalog horror/cult films, I imagine that Anchor Bay has no intention of re-releasing the Bava films on Blu-ray.

In other OOP news Severin is losing the rights to a number of Black Emanuelle films and Malabimba and are selling off their remaining stock. $10 for singles, $20 each for the Black Emanuelle's Box sets

With Eclipse 6 showing up on Amazon, I did some research. Looks like Amazon has the following in-stock from Criterion:

Port of Shadows
The Orphic Trilogy
Alphaville
Le corbeau
Forbidden Games
Diary Of A Country Priest
Fallen Idol
Trafic
Tales of Hoffman
The Small Black Room
Le Trou
Contempt
Coup De Torchon
The Long Good Friday
Quai des Orfevres
White Shiek
A Woman is A Woman (for $82...and 1 left in stock)

some say "only x left in stock, order soon" which probably means that's it. Some don't say anything in terms of inventory.

I don't know how often some of these appear...but you can buy them directly from amazon.

If any of you that don't already have it don't buy Le trou right now, I will murder you and then break out of prison and murder you again.

Interesting that some of these like Contempt are directly Amazon as opposed to third party sellers that are leaving their merchandise in the Amazon warehouses like usual. Now if they'd only discover a stash of Bunel DVDs.

All the Studio Canals I bought when Criterion announced their OOPness are worth zilch, and all the ones I didn't buy are worth a fortune.

These three are only available from marketplace sellers (fulfilled by Amazon):

Alphaville
The Long Good Friday
A Woman is A Woman

The others are actually available from Amazon.

No, only these are available directly from Amazon:

Contempt
Diary Of A Country Priest
Fallen Idol
Forbidden Games
The Orphic Trilogy
Port of Shadows
Quai des Orfevres
Tales of Hoffman
Trafic

Most of the others are being sold by rightpricedvd. If it's lower tier and the price isn't $26.99, then it's not Amazon.

The 1952 Scaramouche, probably the greatest swashbuckler ever made, one that you can bet will soon make a reappearance as a DVD-R #-o

As much as I love Scaramouche (it's my pick for best film of '52), I'd still have to give the title of greatest swashbuckler ever made to Captain Blood.
