Re: the John Waters Collection - I owned it and watched nearly every film in it, and I realized once and for all that John Waters films are just a way for John Waters to make some money and a name for himself so he can keep on professionally being John Waters. Which is just fine with me, I love the man, I just don't need to waste my time owning all his films.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days was rumored in that same talk where Tiny Furniture was confirmed, and they all seem right up CC's alley. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to guess that they'll eventually see a release.

Well B&N had a hellofa sale (or pricing error) on it around last Black Friday ($6.29 total cost), so I did sidegrade from the hd-dvds. I thought the red ones looked fine. I recall a few excerpts that are pretty grainy (but it seemed mostly like real grain, perhaps those particular ones came from 16mm originally?), a few others might possibly have been based on SD masters, but all in all they looked really good on a 60" screen. Got a few dvds just because of what I saw (I'd never even heard of Good News before, for example), and look forward to at least a few more of them making their way to blu-ray, though I suspect most of them will probably just be dumped to the SD archives. So could be your last shot at seeing many of these in HD.

Check out the reviews here (formal and informal), probably give you a better idea what to expect than some random customer reviews on amazon.

Thanks, I may go ahead and pick that set up along with The Misfits. I hate how the majority of my DVD/Blu purchases these days tend to be on the heels of something going OOP.

Zodiac has been out of print for a year at least. David Prior, who produced the disc; stated that it wasn't a big seller.

I found a gently used copy of Zodiac on Blu at a Blockbuster in May for like $8. I just put in it in my existing director's cut DVD case and called it a day.

Damn, the UK release is inferior? I was thinking of picking that up in preference to the Region A, since it's so much cheaper.

I'm pretty sure they both have the same special features, but the US release, being a 2-disc set, has better audio and video than the single disc UK release.

The film was released on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-ray right at the peak of the format battle. It was really overpriced as most Paramount releases were back then. They should certainly re-release the Blu-ray at a much lower price and the film will certainly sell then.

I see no official indication that Arsenic and Old Lace is OOP (the online stores all seem to have it), but I noticed that it's no longer listed on the Warner Brothers website. They only show it as being available in one of their TCM's Greatest Classic Films sets.

It's now a Turner title, like Bringing Up Baby and Auntie Mame, which is not the same thing anymore I guess. It's available, with shitty new coverart and presumably the same transfer (no idea if it retains the extras), but cheap

This is not a recent OOP heads-up, but I remember several years ago when Herod's Law went out of print, the DVD was soon priced at $100 on Amazon Marketplace. I held onto mine anyway, and (for now) the price has settled down to as low as $3 (see the link). If anyone wants a really funny satire on corruption, pick this up. From everything I know about how politics (and parties like the PRI in particular) have operated in rural Mexican towns, this really hits the nail on the head, and people I've shown it to generally seem to have found it really funny. The main character is a junkyard dealer picked as a party puppet to be temporary mayor of the town, but he resolves to carry out his duties with no corrupt practices whatsoever. The DVD from Fox has a nice sharp anamorphic transfer, which is unusual for Latin American films on DVD, and I tend to doubt it'll ever be back in print again.
