I can confirm that this model (NS-WBRDVD2) is. Your copy may not even be updated, which means it'll be region-free ready right out of the box (Setup then 9-1-1-3 and bam, little menu appears in the side scrollbar where you can change your regions at your leisure). If it's updated, just back-install the previous firmware, downloadable from the Insignia site, with a USB drive and do samedenti alligator wrote:Wow, do all the Insignia models on sale at Best Buy play region free? I'm tempted to pick one up to replace my Sherwood, which will die sooner than later from the sound of it.

Does that player play PAL, like Mr. Bongo's dvds?

My TV can't receive native PAL signals and it displays all discs fine, so the player must convert to NTSC automatically.

Re: All-Region DVD and Blu-ray Player Advice
I have the Oppo BDP-83 with a kit that allows me to play all blu and DVD regions, as well as SACDs and DVD-As. I love it and hope it never breaks.

Anthony, so it definitely converts PAL to NTSC on your TV? I'm going to probably save up for the 93 model

Re: All-Region DVD and Blu-ray Player Advice
Fuck, Insignia has taken down links to older firmware for my model (NS-BRDVD3) and I therefore won't be able to activate the region free capability. Fuck.

I know it doesn't help you but I still have the file for my model if Insignia's done the same. Mfunk, have you tried looking for yours on Filestube or asking for it at one if those HTF type forums that discuss the player?

Re: All-Region DVD and Blu-ray Player Advice
Yes, it plays both NTSC and Pal perfectly. Trust me, this is the best player on the market for the money. The player also has an excellent DVD upconversion chip that makes DVDs look almost as good as blu-rays. I've never understood why people who claim to be film connoisseurs watch movies using anything less. :-"Drucker wrote:Anthony, so it definitely converts PAL to NTSC on your TV? Ughhhh I can't even find a changelog, let alone the .iso file I need. This is driving me crazy. I might have to just give up.

Doesn't work for me, It says, "Can't open VMG info" and then "Can't read dvd title info".unclehulot wrote:If you rip a DVD with Mac the ripper you can watch it from the files bypassing region coding...just disable autostart with the dvdplayer program or force quit. Anybody can tell me a good site to order Tv-dvd/BR players in canada?! Amazon.ca has almost nothing and Best-buy/futureshop sucks...

Re: BD 25 Touch of Evil
It's not always 49.99, I got it on sale right around the time MoC released Metropolis last year. I think Regular price is 88.00. It can't be set Region Free, but the region code can be easily changed. I just have it as my B player. My has worked great since day one, but some other people got lemons, however, they just exchanged them and got one that worked. Walmart's pretty good that way.Hail_Cesar wrote:Wowow! Whats that!? Thanks. The main reason I've held out for so long is the apparent shoddiness/non-durability of so many of the models. But with Touch of Evil, that Tarkovsky set on AE (mainly at least for Mirror), and all those early Lang and Murnau's, I can't really put it off much longer...Anthony wrote:Yes, it plays both NTSC and Pal perfectly. My player is having an issue playing DVD discs anyway. I have a Sherwood but I'm constantly concerned that it'll just stop working all of a sudden. Perhaps I should get the NS-WBRDVD2 as well.Hopscotch wrote:Looks like the NS-WBRDVD2 is the model to have. Get the Oppo BDP-93 and have someone who knows what they are doing install the region free kit. You won't be disappointed. The 93 also allows streaming access from Netflix, Vudu, blockbuster, etc.Drucker wrote:Thanks. I just got an Insignia NS-BRDVD2 and need the old firmware. Does anyone know where to find that one? The file name would help too. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Re: All-Region DVD and Blu-ray Player Advice
The kit available on Ebay and recommended by Gary makes it seem pretty easy-no longer need to go INSIDE the kit. Does that not work as well?Anthony wrote:Get the Oppo BDP-93 and have someone who knows what they are doing install the region free kit. You won't be disappointed. Re: All-Region DVD and Blu-ray Player Advice
Hi All
I'm planning to buy a multi-region Blu ray player, but I don't have a huge amount to spend. I'm not very technical, and this is a little confusing. Ideally I'd like to have just one player for DVDs and Blu rays, all regions in both. I'm in the UK and my TV can deal with PAL and NTSC. So apart from going on AmazonUK and paying £400+ for an all region player, could anyone here recommend cheaper alternatives? If I could buy a UK region locked player and convert it to all region it would be wonderful.
Many thanks
