Re: Olive Films Opus
Someone posted this on HTF
Regarding the remaining Olive/PM titles:
Most of the remaining titles should be released by May 2011.
First:
ROPE OF SAND
THE MOUNTAIN
Second:
Three OTTO PREMINGER Titles Released Separately - SKIDOO, HURRY SUNDOWN and SUCH GOOD FRIENDS
Third:
FACE TO FACE
Fourth:
SANDS OF THE KALAHARI
Some of these titles needed to be reconstructed from various prints, so that why they were delayed.
No word on PROMISE HER ANYTHING, FEAR IS THE KEY and SAVAGE INNOCENTS.

Re: Olive Films Opus
"remaining titles" I guess this means that they are folding afterwards then?
I'm looking forward to 'Rope Of Sand', 'The Mountain', 'Sands Of Kalahari' and 'Such Good Friends'. Not only because there are plenty of talented people involved in those films, but also because I'd never heard of them until now.
Is Face To Face the 1952 one with James Mason and Gene Lockhart? There's at least 10 films on imdb with that title.

Regarding the membership program, I haven't received any DVD since October. Had anyone received DVD lately?

Re: Olive Films Opus
I called a couple of times over the last few weeks. About 2 weeks ago I got a real person who told me that they were behind in shipping and hoped to send out all of the discs released after September the following week. Haven't received a thing yet ---

Re: Olive Films Opus
I've placed several calls to them and no one has gotten back to me. I realize we got a good deal on the subscription, but the following releases are listed on their website as being part of the Opus label and have not been shipped out to me:
- 4 and a Half Terrorists
- 50 Ways of Saying Fabulous
- Amerikana
- Brotherhood
- Escape from Zahrain
- Frozen Land
- In Passing
- Mirush
- Notes from the Underground
- Playing for Time
- Raymundo
- Riot
- Slavoj Zizek - The Reality of the Virtual
- Summer and Smoke
- The Day I Became a Woman
- The Girl
- The Milk of Sorrow
- The Thief
- The Tree That Remembers
- Tropic of Cancer
- Who Killed Pixote?
- Woodenhead
- WUSA
Now... to me, that's crazy, and I don't care how backlogged they are... I am going to stop at nothing until I contact them and figure out what's going on and get my money back. Absurd amount of titles to just not ship out to anyone.

If you feel like you've exhausted all of your options, you might try filing a complaint with your state's attorney general. Or contact your credit card company and ask for a chargeback.

No one shut them down until they actually release the Premingers. After that, let slip the dogs of war all you want

Re: Olive Films Opus
I was surprised to wake up and find nine DVDs in my mailbox this morning. Thank you to whoever hassled them enough!
I received: WUSA, RIOT, Escape from Zahrain, The Milk of Sorrow, Brotherhood, Summer and Smoke, Tropic of Cancer, The Girl, and The Temptation of St. Tony. The only DVD i've missed, according to what Amazon lists to be Olive releases, was Playing for Time.

Re: Olive Films Opus
I'm the one that gave them shit about it. I opted for a membership cancellation and refund of my membership charges over the shipment of these titles ("We were just behind because of the holidays, they'll ship out tomorrow, we promise!"). Weeks later, it looks like they finally did!

Apparently they stopped charging my card a few months ago (who knew?), so it looks like I'm SOL. Anyone want to sell me WUSA at a friendly forum price?

Gaumont inks Olive deal
U.S. distrib acquires 17 classic titles in HD
PARIS -- Gallic mini-major Gaumont has inked a multi-title deal with U.S. distributor Olive Films.
Specializing in upscale art pics and foreign fare, Olive Films has acquired 17 remastered classic titles in HD from Gaumont's library, including Maurice Pialat's "Police," Michelangelo Antonioni's "I Vinti" and Abel Gance's "J'accuse."
Olive has taken all rights on these pics and plans on releasing some of them theatrically.
Gaumont owns France's second-largest film library, boasting more than 900 titles, including films from acclaimed French and foreign directors, notably Francis Veber, Jean-Jacques Beineix, Federico Fellini and Jean-Luc Godard.
Gaumont has also closed a U.S. deal with Olive for the theatrical release of romantic comedy "Late Bloomers" in North America. "Late Bloomers," which played in competition at Berlin, marks Julie Gavras' follow up to "Blame It on Fidel," which played at Sundance in 2007.
Set in London, "Late Bloomers" turns on an aging couple, played by William Hurt and Isabella Rossellini, who separate to put the spark back in their marriage.
Pic has already been picked up by Palace (Australia), Paradise (CIS), Art Film (Brazil), Shapira (Israel), Weg (India), Lusomundo (Portugal) and Greece (Odeon), among others.
Olive plans on releasing "Late Bloomers" next year.
Deal was negotiated between Cecile Gaget, head of Gaumont Intl. and Farhad Arshad, Olive's CEO.
Some of Olive's recent acquisitions of upscale arthouse pics include "Mammuth" and Eva Green starrer "Womb."

This deal has been known for a while, but I'm curious about I Vinti. Isn't Raro planning on releasing that later in the month?

Is it the later J'accuse they are talking about in the article or is it the one that Flicker Alley put out?

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Despair and I Only Want You to Love Me are listed on Amazon with June 7 release date. Also, When We Leave.

Re: Olive Films Opus
Fantastic! Despair is a bit of a mess, though a fascinating one (a three-car collision between Nabokov, Stoppard and Fassbinder - maybe a four-way if you include Bogarde), but I Only Want You to Love Me is prime RWF. We're gradually limping towards everything becoming available - though an Eclipse set of TV work would help!Ashirg wrote:Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Despair and I Only Want You to Love Me are listed on Amazon with June 7 release date.
