Holy Cow - the excised footage has been found?! Of course, this is no guarantee that any of the footage will end up on a Blu-ray edition (per every issue of FIRE WALK WITH ME), but it's great to hear the material wasn't trashed and Lynch certainly sounds excited by the rediscovery.

There are no FIRE WALK WITH ME-type issues in this case.

I'm summing up here, but the above posted audio interview with Lynch reveals that the upcoming Blu release of Blue Velvet will include deleted scenes and outtakes that have recently re-surfaced. According to Lynch, those materials were deemed lost after Laurentiis's company went bankrupt, but they've been found somewhere in Seattle. Rejoice!

So if this BD is done with Lynch's collaboration, are all the MK2 Blus?

Happy birthday to David Lynch - it might finally be time for me to watch Inland Empire from beginning to end. His films are all about being in the mood to watch them for me (or seeing them theatrically, when being surrounded by them force one to be in the mood). I still haven't sat down with Inland Empire when I am legitimately in the mood to be absorbed into the experience, and it's not something that I can force (as much as LQ would like me to).

Do it, do it! When I first watched it, the first two hours flew by. That last hour is something else - I still don't have a handle on it - but the whole experience is worth it. Being in the right mood does help out, but a little distance aids in figuring it out. Lynch controls the confusion and strangeness in the film so well that not being in the mood might even be more helpful.

I had the exact same experience. Though mine was caused by arriving way too early and drinking a couple of pitchers of beer beforehand. Still nodded in and out and by the end felt like I'd dreamed the whole thing. Upon rewatching on dvd, I didn't.

About time too. As if a lack of chapters will result in watching a film from beginning to end in one sitting. I never understood his stance. I don't think I've ever watched the DVD of Inland Empire in one go, and it was a right inconvenience having to fast forward to the scene I left at the previous viewing.

Lynch sold the rights to Eraserhead and the shorts to an unknown American company to distribute on his behalf, with mk2 brokering the sale. According to mk2, Eraserhead is suppose to get a rerelease at some point this year. Could be Janus, IFC, Strand, Kino Lorber...nobody knows at this point.

It could be possible that there won't be a rerelease of the lime green box. Probably depends on the terms of his contracts with the studios. Maybe a different distributor could rerelease the boxset (as long as titles are not available individually) or maybe the contracts stated that it had to be Absurda and could not be released by a third party. Will be a good question to ask Janus or whoever the new owners of his library are.

Lynch seems to be slowly shutting Absurda down. We can only speculate why...money problems? Took too much of his time to run? The focus on digital distribution?

Although Lynch avoided using Chapter titles/buttons on some of his DVDs (the ones he had the power to do so), there are still chapter markers on those discs. You can pretty easily punch in a number on the remote or use the chapter advance button to quickly get where you want to be. I actually find INLAND EMPIRE to be pretty easy to sit through in one go; it's surprising how quickly the three hours goes by.
