I was crossing my fingers for the Ventriloquist, Baby Dahl, or maybe the Clock King. Sigh.

I was hoping for Riddler. I'm at a loss at what Nolan could do with Bane.

No one has mentioned the goofy villains yet. The closest would probably be the Clock King who honestly I don't see working as much more of a threat than the Murphy Scarecrow. If they went the TAS route though he could be very entertaining. When we get to Kiteman though then you can hang us.

You just lower the camera and have it pointing up at his torso and face during his scenes.

Oh, you mean the same way they filmed the regular size stand in for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Game of Death (pointing upwards at the stand-in who is sitting down with their feet pointed directly at the camera also seems to help!)

Wasn't Sarah Michelle Gellar considered for Harley at one point? Or am I thinking of production on The Dark Knight?

That was a rumor floating around with TDK, but nothing actual. I don't really see Nolan putting the character into the franchise, but Bane is a fairly obscure villain so who knows.

So was Ras Al-Ghul, the villain from the first one. Indeed, Ras I'd guess is even more obscure for non-comicbook readers, given that Bane has at least made appearances in one other Batman movie as well as that cartoon show.

Is Bane really considered that obscure? I've never read any of the comics, but I do remember Bane from Schumacher's Batman and Robin. Most of the other villains mentioned in the last few posts I've never heard of, however.

I just meant obscure in the sense that he doesn't have the same draw as Riddler, Joker, etc. I didn't even remember Bane from B&R, although that's a movie I try to block out. He's definitely more well-known than Baby Dahl though.

Ah, I get it. In Batman and Robin he was Poison Ivy's slave, or whatever it was. Don't remember much of it myself, but I guess Nolan's take on the character will be quite different from that of Joel Schumacher.

The character wasn't himself in the old movie. I wouldn't be surprised if the role and movie essentially becomes a duplication of Bane's initial appearance. That would definitely be appropriate for the end to a series and would pointedly show what I think Nolan has been trying to do since day one. Since it appears that Nolan(thankfully)has no interest in Azrael the ending to things should be even more brutal.

Good call. You should do stand up, swo; you find unusual humor from the ordinary and articulate it concisely.

The biggest difference between Bane in B & R and Bane's comic iteration is that he's borderline braindead in the film and incredibly smart in the comic, even deducing that Batman is Bruce Wayne. I'm no Bane fan, but that kind of privacy breach is a smart, logical way to raise the stakes in the final film. I do wonder, as referenced above, if Nolan will invoke the iconic Bane moment of

him crippling Batman

so as to effectively "end" the franchise with insurance that no one will attempt a forth installment in the same continuity. Not that that, ultimately, prevented the comic from keepin' on with the same good ole Bats we know and love.

I really do hope they go that way because it shows a fearlessness on the one thing this series has going for itself, that the cost of being Batman is far higher than any good it does the world. Of course I doubt anyone will let him end it all Empire Strikes Back, but now is the only time I see that being allowed.

I'm disappointed in Catwoman being a character, I'm bored of her and struggling to think of a way Nolan could make her interesting...

I wonder if we'll see another couple of villains like the Professor or something?

I was hoping for Hugo Strange and the Riddler with Joseph Gordon Levitt playing him. Still Hardy as Bane sounds intriguing and will hopefully take the bad taste in the mouth that the Batman and Robin version left. I'm wondering row who will play Bane's henchmen in the film.

My memory on the first two films is hazy (especially Begins), but I don't really recall this. Or, at least, I don't recall it feeling like a major threat, either in terms of a malicious identity exposure or in terms of a villain catching Batman by surprise on his own turf. (I guess I have vague memories of Ra's doing something like this, and I know that the mansion burned, but I view Bane as a potentially harsh upping of the ante here.)

And, uh, ditto on the Catwoman burn-out. Still, given how shocked people were (mostly negatively, IIRC) with the casting of Ledger and the subsequent rousing success there, I'm betting that Nolan can generate a successful and fresh take on the character.

But in The Dark Knight is there not a guy from Wayne's company who discovers his identity and plans to announce it on television?

I guess he didn't pose a physical threat however compared to the Joker, so maybe the Bane thing will work..

In the first film since they had him as Bruce's trainer Ra's did know his identity, but as Peacock said that never really mattered. Ditto what he said about the company man in the second film.

Was hoping Hardy was going to play Strange or Black Mask, but like others, Hardy as anything has my interest. Anne as Catwoman wouldn't of been my first choice, but the cast looks good to me. I am just interested now as in how Nolan's vision of Bane will look.
