Twilight's Last Gleaming? Cool. I hope they use Aldrich's preferrred cut, which is in UCLA's archive.

Kind sir, would you care to elaborate? Having read a few interviews with Aldrich and done as much research as I could on this film, I've come to conclude that the version so far made available via home video releases, is the one Aldrich later cut for television screenings.

If I have been correct in my assumptions, can you tell me in which ways the Aldrich's preferred cut differs (other than by the supposedly 2-3 min longer running time)?

Hi Kerhonen! Aldrich´s preferred cut is, AFAIK, 144 or 146 minutes long. It was released on laserdisc by CBS/Fox if I don´t misremember. The UK magazine Monthly Film Bulletin (British Film Institute) detailed the scenes cut in a one-page, back-page article (June, 1977, I think).
You might find similar descriptions on the film´s ImdB page. It´s around a dozen separate cuts. Vera Miles´s scenes as Charles Durning´s wife were cut before release.

At least in my experience, I've never received any advanced shipping notice from Olive. The discs just showed up.

Hi, Stefan! Thanks for the reply. That is interesting, and I believe this to be the version I'm familiar with. A German trailer shows bits of at least 1 scene not included in this version. So the Aldrich's preferred cut, running at 144 minutes, seems to then differ from the initial theatrical release, which according to IMDB ran for 146 minutes, according to Aldrich 147 minutes.

IMDB does mention the deleted Vera Miles scenes, but nothing further. I'm hoping for some DVD extras when it does come out!

They didn't send Playing for Time, which was released at the beginning of the month, but I got the other five.

So it's been a while since anyone posted, but the releases seem to have hit a standstill (or at least I haven't received any since September).

Yeah, I realize it's a pretty good deal, but it seems weird to me to be getting a monthly charge for nothing.

With the monthly fee I expected to be getting something each month, but it seems they realized that would have been too good a deal. But if the charge is just for getting a measly discount on their site even $9 is too much.

Almost everything they had on tap for this fall has been pushed into next year. I emailed them inquiring about the situation and their future plans, but they never responded. I'm hoping they don't turn out to be the shortest-lived DVD producer ever, they have acquired the rights to some really great stuff. The reincarnated New Yorker was supposed to be back in business by now too, but that hasn't happened either. Must be an especially shitty time to be peddling niche cinema.

New Yorker currently has a film "My Dog Tulip" playing in theaters...so they still have a (faint) pulse.

It would be a shame if Olive Films went under. The list of titles they were working on looked pretty enticing.
