What is the likelihood of Criterion putting out a Blu-ray of Profound Desire of the Gods? I'd really like to see that, and figured MoC's release of it might influence them a bit (does it ever work this way?)

While criterion does have the rights I doubt they'll exercise them anytime too soon. If you can go for the MOC, which will be released on SD soon, might as well go for it.

ianungstad wrote:I would hope it's City of Lost Children, as that could use a better release. They don't need to release either Fincher title. I'm pretty sure they are both on blu already. The Panic Room dvd was 3 discs and I don't see how they could add anything else to it.

It's probably Stealing Beauty (barebones, Fox, Bertolucci) which would be a disappointment.
I doubt whether Khondji would be contributing to Panic Room as he left under a cloud during the production - unless of course salacious gossip is the new norm for commentaries.

Criterion has retweeted Mubi's 'Image of the Day' for 25/11, namely a photo of Anna Karina on the set of La Religieuse. It's probably only a plug for their remaining Godards, but I'm desperate enough to take it as a hint that a Rivette will finally be released.

Does anyone know if David Lynch's distribution company "Absurda" went under? All the releases seem to be going out of print. The short film collection, Erasurehead, Lime Green set all seem to be discontinued.

MK2 is also listing Erasurehead on their site under "new films". Maybe self distribution wasn't working out for David? With the steep decline in dvd and blu sales and the niche nature of the product, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled the plug on the Absurda release and is letting MK2 sell the distribution rights on his behalf.

I wonder if Criterion would be able to buy it from MK2 if they re still interested in the title?

Edit: I emailed mk2 about Eraserhead and this was their reply:

A new US distributor will be re-releasing the film shortly.

Could be anyone I guess. I wonder if it's Janus though? They've licensed a lot from mk2 (Chaplins, etc.) and we know that they were after Erasurehead once upon a time.

Fun speculation!

Is that the alternate cut of Eraserhead where the lady in the radiator sings "Oh L'amour" over and over?

Well in a weird synchronicity, there was this news today.

And of course, this is also an excellent excuse to link the Pixies' cover of "Heaven".

Doubt it. Rhino didn't distribute Inland Empire in theaters, right? I was sure they only released it on DVD. This sounds like it may be getting a theatrical re-release especially since David Lynch apparently showed a new pristine 35mm print of Eraserhead at the AFI Fest.

That is a scary thought. A better title would be 'moose hunters'.

I think this is a new top ten (not sure) as I saw it linked on MCN today. If it's old, disregard, of course.

Gorin's top ten:
this bit was in the description, perhaps a tease for a march mainline release of Three Popular Films?
Writer and filmmaker Jean-Pierre Gorin collaborated for many years with Jean-Luc Godard, on the Dziga Vertov Group films as well as Tout va bien.

He also made three popular films, Poto and Cabengo, Routine Pleasures, and My Crasy Life.

Could the 3 Cahiers issues then be a clue for Gorin's 3 Popular Films?

I don't think Gorin ever wrote for Cahiers.

Actually, what were the first three films made by the Cahiers filmmakers? Could they have been any of these still unreleased Janus properties?

Le Beau Serge
Les Cousins
The Sign of the Leo
Paris Belongs to Us

Just a thought.
