Early '60s, black and white. Young kids on a beach, perhaps stranded, who are attacked by some sort of glowing substance from the waves. At one point it starts eating/burning into a kid's feet. I thought it might be The Flesh Eaters, but I can't find this particular scene as I scour for clips on the web.

Any help much appreciated. I had a high fever when I saw this on UHF when I was home sick as a child. It's a resilient memory.

A class I took a while back had a brief image from a film described as a "Cubist film." The characters were wearing boxes and had boxes on their head. Knowing the professor's sense of humor, the Cubism reference is probably tongue-in-cheek, but I would like to know which film it is from- certainly from the early silent era.

It might be the late 1950s THE SPACE CHILDREN...
Did the glowing substance look like a cross between a puffy omelet and a deflated brain?

That's funny, I just saw the same questions posted in the same words at IMDB by... zachhh, of Tampa, FL. Isn't that the guy who's been banned here over and over and keeps joining with new aliases?

Yes, that's the one. Tho' neither of those posters has an IP from Tampa or anywhere else in Florida (which in itself may not mean much). Was the wording the same?

Same wording.
For the record, my intention was not to accuse Minkin or gcgiles1dollarbin of being reincarnations of zachhh. These posts above were on our forum before zachhh posted them to Imdb. As I said, I thought it was interesting, and if zachhh is copying posts from this forum and pasting them to Imdb without mention of their source, it seemed like something the members involved might want to know about.

Rest assured, I am neither an agent provocateur nor a stinky troll. That would definitely be weird if someone posed the exact same question on IMDB. That person can't expect to come back here and answer the questions--as a posture of good faith--if he is already banned. Peculiar...

More importantly: HarryLong, thank you for the Space Children suggestion. I will definitely check it out.

Cheers, Greg

Yikes,

Not to pull a "backed against the wall" last ditch effort, but I have indeed been plagiarized. I already have an IMDB account under the name Minkin, which I haven't used for several years after growing tired of re-rating everything I've seen.

Can I also point out that the rest of Zach's IMDB postings don't match the diction nor wit as any of my posts.

I also find it strange that two questions by two users from the same topic (within a relatively short time apart) would both fall victim.

My memory recalls something more indistinct, pulsing hot white, amoebic. Your description sounds more like the after effects of a gateway drug, according to old PSAs. Thanks again, HarryLong.

One last mention of the Zachhh issue,

I reported the posts to IMDB regarding plagiarism and attempts to ruin the reputation of members here. It now appears that the posts are removed. Clicking on Gregory's link states they were removed by the poster (Zachhh), so it appears he knows that we caught his trick.

Any questions three that gcgiles1dollarbin and I can do to put the nail in the Zachhh coffin?

Back on topic: It would be nice if anybody knew what that "Cubism film" was.

I'll play Devil's advocate and assume he was trying to help figure out those movies titles for you? But then again, I always given people the benefit of the doubt!

Seems Devil's advocate here has a Tampa, Florida IP address.

Success!

I have indeed found the film I was searching for (on my own)! It's called "Peintre Cubiste" (Whiffles, Cubic Artist) [1912]- by Georges Monca and Rigadin. Here is the imdb and here is the image I was searching for all this time!

It looks excellent; perchance anybody know how one might find this film? (Zachhh, you're not allowed to ask on my behalf)

Lots of other interesting French silents are listed alongside the Rigadin film, found here

While I can't assist with this request, I'd like to ponder aloud: what is it that makes miscellaneous film stills so inherently intriguing?

He, who knows what those kids were doing out there on the beach in the middle of the night.
But your description works as well for what I'm remembering... (Haven't seen this title since AMC was a classic movie channel.)

Ok, this has been driving me nuts all day: I have a very hazy memory of a single scene in which a woman is on-stage performing...she may or may not have been acting like a buffoon, on purpose...? The audience is rowdy and heckling her, and all of the sudden she stops what she's doing and starts to loudly berate the crowd for laughing at her. Its a black & white film. Any help would save my sanity.

Sounds like Nights of Cabiria, where Cabiria is on stage in a trance.

It isn't Nights of Cabiria, no... it's an American film. I suppose that would've been helpful to note up front! (Or at least its an English-language film, but I can't say I recall any accents).

Is it a Dietrich movie? Sounds like something she would've done.

It isn't Dietrich, it's an actress that I can't quite place....If my hazy memory serves me well, she's brunette and may be wearing a ballerina tutu in this scene.

Isn't there a scene in Dance, Girl, Dance by Dorothy Arzner like that? It's been so long since I've seen it I can't remember if the details match your account.
